man, it is ****ing depressing that finding a 2v2 (as a solo queue) now takes minutes instead of seconds, like it used to. monobattles don't even exist anymore

anyone want to play micro macro tonight??

i just played a guy who went gas first reaper, into reactored hellions with 4 widow mines, into 4 CCs on the low ground before building a second factory. unsurprisingly, supplies were about 200 vs 110 when i attacked him with 2/1/2 roach ling baneling muta with 75 drones on 4 bases and a hive going up. i think his army was about 8 hellbats, 5 hellions, 6 widow mines, 2 thors, and 4 medivacs (????).

how do these guys win games in diamond?

i watched the replay and at the 9 minute mark he had 1.2k/300 and just started throwing down CCs everywhere

of course this is while he was microing his two hellions vs my lings

When engaging ling-bane-muta against bio, I've been trying out right-clicking the lings past the army (instead of a-moving them) to get more of a surround.

I'm not convinced it does that much. The banes lag behind due to being slower, so what happens is that when I get the "surround" my lings in the back melt really fast, because lings against marines aren't that good, and they don't have any bane support yet cause they're still rolling along to get to the fight. Because the lings melt so fast, it doesn't seem that what I would expect to be the benefit of doing this (having a "surround", restricting their ability to kite away) is really happening.

Later in the game, when I have ultras and my ling count is significantly decreased because of them, this problem gets worse since I don't even really have enough lings to make their units in the back sweat at all.

Any thoughts?

If you want a surround, attacking from multiple angles is way better than anything you could do from one direction (lol). Ideally you want your lings to get there right before the banelings do, if you can only come from one angle. I think it depends also on the size of your army relative to his.

Its extremely difficult to engage properly with zerg vs terran. You need to get the surround (on creep) with the lings whilst controlling the banes with move command and trying to hit only marines with them and focusing down medivacs with muta's and splitting everything to avoid widow mine shots. Also you need to engage "instantly" due to inefficiency of units.

One thing that might be an issue is you might be coming from one angle or not enough angles, so your frontal lings kinda melt and the ones behind spend too much time running not attacking so by the time you actually "engage" you are at a massive disadvantage. You need to do everything so fast.

Going to see if I can find an FPVOD of someone really good engaging the way I mean.

Just played a guy who tried three times to cannon rush me. All three failed...he went from there into 3 nexus off 1 gate 1 robo, then blind added 2 more robos and hid colossi. Fortunately for him, I was going for a ling hydra timing, so his build hard countered min. Unfortunately, he's Protoss, so he died 30 minutes later because he couldn't split his army.

It is also worth noting his mothership core died at about 12 minutes and he didn't make another one.

I played a diamond random yesterday who was honest about being T when the game started but then 2raxed me. He must have been ****ing terrible because this legitimately might have been the first 2rax in my life that I held. He only built 2 bunkers, but the second one was behind the first one instead of blocking off my natural entry in any meaningful manner (and this was Overgrowth so it isn't hard to do that), so I got behind the bunkers with like 8 lings and was able to intercept reinforcement marines. So, with reinforcements cut off, I got spines up and barely got the bunkers down before my hatch died.

He followed it up with, I **** you not, 2port banshee. For some reason, after my overlord flew into his base directly over his two starports and I typed "is this real life" into chat, he did not leave the game.

AMAZING blink forward. This was after I had killed all of his sentries and most of his army period (oh, and also his third nexus) with a big roach attack and was pulling back to regroup. Then he blinks forward into a horrible position and allows me to kill an immortal for free, in case his position wasn't bad enough already. HERP DERP HE'S RUNNING AWAY I SAW SOMEONE ON GSL BLINK FORWARD TO PICK OFF RETREATING UNITS ONCE

This is playing on my plat smurf (because I'm intoxicated), he's in diamond.

Give him a break...blink is the only Protoss ability that involves doing anything with your units other than keeping them as close together as possible!

Since my smurf is now up to plat and possibly diamond MMR (I'm playing some diamonds), I'm now playing against people who are much better at mech and finding it extremely annoying. I've played several split-map games of swarm host vs mech in the last few days, some hitting an hour+, and they are all painfully boring and not fun to play. Last night I left a game on Frost with a 14k/12.5k bank where we spawned horizontally at the top, split the map, and he went up to 17 ravens and just cast PDDs over his tanks repeatedly so that basically nothing was ever happening. It was 45 minutes in and there was no sign of the game ending anytime soon. I couldn't get infestors in fungal range without being in siege tank range, seems like my only option is to trade vipers for ravens since he had a number of vikings as well (which seems pointless, they cost the same) and hope that pulling ravens in to where I can kill them doesn't let him get off a seeker that wrecks a bunch of my units.

Basically, the quoted gameplan starts failing when opponent starts massing up ravens + vikings in addition to the tanks on the ground. At that point I have no idea how you're supposed to kill his army in anything other than an insanely long game where you try to whittle down his bank, one 200 gas unit at a time, from "half the resources on the map" to "zero" before he does the same to you, the idea of which makes me want to tear my eyes out.

I'm also just frustrated in general with the design of this game regarding certain army compositions.
Protoss: build an army that you pack into a tight ball and use spellcasters to force their units into spots where you can shoot them but they can't shoot you
Terran: build an army that you pack into a tight ball and use spellcasters to deal massive splash damage while making their units literally unable to fire at yours

How is this **** supposed to be fun to play against? I've never really cared to do all-ins outside ZvZ before, but I'm seriously considering learning some for any game where I scout Terran going mech.

Fun game of the day:

Terran 10rax10gases me and gets up a bunker on my main ramp on overgrowth (so it can't hit anything), which I dont scout because who the **** puts anything there. He then more or less offensively GGs when I scout it. After I take it ou with very minimal losses, he then must have thought he was in an unlosable position, because he then suicides a banshee, 8 hellions, and 3 reapers into a spore, two spines, and three queens jus to kill 5 drones or so. He then builds CCs 3, 4, and 5 and double armories off of two factories. Unsurprisingly, he instantly left when my first six mutas showed up.
