practice 1v1 vs easy computer
then medium
then hard
then bronze

duno what race you are but pick 1 race and stick with it every game so you learn faster.
look up some basic BO's online (just the start like 9pylon 12gate 14gas 15pylon or whatever) and build on top of them. turn on your game clock and practice massing up men for an attack at about the 8~9 minute mark; imo most new players are way too passive at first and almost never attack until they have a ginormous army and its really hard to win games like that. im guessing youre new to RTS in general? just remember most of the other bronzes are prolly new to the game but are used to RTS somewhat. and like ifx said you have to just get games under your belt.

if i rmb correctly, the ratings/ranking system puts more weight on your most recently played games. so if you start stringing together some wins, you'll move up before you even know it.

Yeah good points. I've been sticking with Protoss so far. I'm pretty good at the early game by this point and go 9 pylon/scout, chrono 2 probes out when the pylon finishes, 12gate, 14gas, 16 cyber. I get the first zealot out quickly, esp when I see an early pool. I'll get my 2nd gate up sooner if I see my opponent is building multiple rax/gates early on. From there I have a hard time deciding what to build. My macro gets sloppier later in the game when I have lots more bases/units/build queues to stay on top of. I fail to keep probes in constant production at expansions, though I'm always getting better at this. When I have to micro my units in battle I tend to accumulate minerals and do poorly in macro.

I have been neglecting early pushes and have instead been trying to expand. I usually wait until I have a sizable army to throw the natural down, though. I've been going for a proxy nexus soon after, which may be a mistake. I'm never sure when I should go robo/star/archives. I've started to go for robo sooner so I can get an observer up and immortals to deal with roaches/marauders.

In all of my losses, I've at least matched or beaten my opponent in mineral collection. Where I fail the most is microing my units poorly (letting stalkers get surrounded, not being careful with colossus, warping in units where the enemy can attack before they're warped) and failing to scout my opponent to see what he's doing tech wise. My last loss was PvP. I didn't scout again after my initial scout and was pretty much helpless to the 3 void rays he sent to destroy my main nexus. I was able to warp stalkers in and had an expansion but I tilt-gged. I would've had a hard time winning. All of my losses have been to air, also. Void rays/broods/mutas.

It takes some getting used to, but put both nexuses on the same control group and then you can just make probes on both at the same time.

For example, I put mine on 5. So I go "5 > e > e" and that will make a probe on each Nexus.

Again, if you want to go through a custom match, let me know. I'm free right now.

Spending your resources is also important. I.e. if you have 1k mins saved up, that's 10 extra zealots you could have (and 10 extra zealots your opponent might have if he's keeping up with you on macro).

I just played a PvP game where my opponent scouted early and then went off into the corner of my base. I didn't bother looking but assumed he placed a proxy pylon, and planned on checking after I'd gotten my gateway up and some zealots out. Wasn't too worried because warpgate tech is a long ways away. When I did finally check, I saw that he'd built not only a pylon but also a forge and some cannons. Yay! His cannons destroyed my base before I could really get an army. I tried to make a new main but didn't have the economy to stop his mass void rays, though I managed to get 4 gateways up, tech up and mass a decent amount of blink stalkers. If I had gone for an immediate double expansion I might've had a chance. You learn something new every game.

If you get cannon rushed just start making your own cannons on the side he is coming from. You need to have your cannons built before his if they are in range which is usually pretty easy because they usually start out in a far corner of your base and have to build over towards your base.

If he goes back to his base and cannons himself in just be ready for cheese round two which will probably be voids or dt's.

I'd probably recommend that anyone < diamond set a worker to follow around any probe that enters your base, to better scout any sort of proxy pylonage.

This can be tough if you don't have a forge.

So I'm just listening to music w/e, my dog comes over and starts jumping up the side of my chair. So I start to play with her on the floor and I look up, oh ****, I'm in a game. For like 2 minutes.

No matter, thor rush you say? Just get up and win anyway.

Got cannon rushed again. Don't know why but I neglected to scout early.

Also had a game where I scouted early, saw he had nothing in his base and lost to what apparently was a proxy 2 gate zealot rush.

****ing cheese...

When you see a cannon rush happening just send a few probes to each cannon. It will always kill it before it's done. Don't worry about pylons. They are more costly and have a ton of hp. I also wouldn't worry about the probe either since it can be microed out of a surround so easily. Just keep an eye on where the cannons are and make sure you get them before they warp in.

Meanwhile make your own units and potentially your own cannons depending on how bad off you are.

If the cannon rush starts far enough away that you can get a cannon of your own down, that's by far the easiest way to grind it to a complete halt, because your cannons will prevent him from advancing his, as long as you keep an eye on what he's doing and don't let yourself get outflanked or outnumbered.

The problem with units is that it takes a *ton* of micro to keep the cannon line from advancing. It's doable, but if you can swing it, you should always prefer cannons of your own IMO, cause you can stop his push with far fewer cannons than he's going to build trying to advance on you.

Probably didn't read what I said in the Patch thread.

Response (the player) said he had to play 3 games before he got promoted to Master's. So I'm guessing once he and Trump play and others, they will get bumped up. Just saying, no one on my list has yet.
