I think you are being very unfair on someone like Artosis. Personally I think Artosis is better at commentating than basically any real sports commentator I have ever heard do it regularly. You just never hear that quality of analysis in football, rugby, basketball or any other sport I watch regularly. The odd time maybe, but the guys doing the gig week in week out tend to pretty mediocre play by play or analysis guys that don't analyse much.

Great, he can analyze. But he can't broadcast.

Casting is a combination of both. You have to be able to speak quickly and cleanly and accurately with appropriate inflection and everything, you know, the actual calling of the action. You also have to know what the **** you're talking about. Artosis knows what he's talking about, he just comes across as, like i said, autistic or something.

You'd think the tastosis combination might work well with Artosis's knowledge and tasteless's on-camera skills, but it seems like you get the worst of both worlds.

Like I said, everyone sucks.

I don't get that impression at all. Artosis talks just fine. Yeah a little nerdy for mainstream audiences, not super polished like some TV presenter or something, but perfectly serviceable and fine for what he does and his target audience. I don't care if I get smooth talking Billy Joe golden throat if he says stupid stuff all the time.

They aren't though, I already argued that. Seriously Artosis analysis blows normal sports commentators out of the water. He doesn't have the voice or the charisma maybe but this is a "sport", not an entertainment show.

And I personally find the best casts of games to be the ones that are the least professional, funniest, and most casual.

Homestory Cup was outstanding, and generally I can stand Rotterdam because he doesn't seem to view it as a professional broadcast and more of a hangout on camera.

But my main point I guess is that in the scope of "people who broadcast things" in the world, SC2 commentators are quite ****ty, so ranking them is pointless and arguing about them is pointless. Just enjoy (or tolerate) them the best you can. You're there for the game, not the casts, anyway.

It all depends on your perspective. If you think all polish is what makes a good cast at the expense of anything meaningful being said where you are better with the game on mute (i.e. mainstream sports), then power to you. But I don't agree at all.

And the entertainment comes from the SPORT. The casters are there to add something. Often they add nothing. In mainstream sports. Someone like Artosis adds a lot.

having played sports far more than i have esports (rly surpringsing), i think its a stretch to say sports analysts are better. you have like 80% ex athletes, so they are great at the sport, but they have no idea how to articulate it. the others are chris berman/bob kostas types that luckboxed dream jobs. its only when you have a panel that they could possibly string together a sentence worth listening to.

artosis clearly goat sc2 caster, and i think he could cast about anything and do very well.

I lol'd @ tasteless's "on-camera skills". 95% of the time he looks/sounds like a complete idiot. Artosis is clearly the best caster, way above anyone else, except maybe InControl (I find his casting really, really good and enjoyable) and of course MC. There are only a few I would consider unwatchable, but in that list would definitely be Husky, Day9, and Gretorp. Idra and Destiny should cast more.
