Game 1, Cloud Kingdom

MVP does 2 factory blue flame hellion. Life has no scouting info and is probably assuming bio from his opening (getting baneling nest, no roach warren in sight), he sends a group of lings into MVP's natural at 9:00 and sees extra hellions + the blue flame so that's when he knows it's on. Life panics, builds a second baneling nest, has a wall at his natural but doesn't put a queen there to close it off, loses 24 workers.

Life goes first into infestors and then gets his roach warren around 13:00, getting both melee + range upgrades. 16:00, he's finally starting to get roaches out to go with his 13 infestors and gets hive + spires, which he quickly turns into a greater spire at 18:00; MVP is on 170 supply at this point, with mostly tanks/hellions and some thors. MVP is ready to move out but Life uses ling/roach runbys to his 3rd and 4th to try to keep his army in place while he gets corruptors out to make broods. Lings and roaches barely take out the 4th, but Life loses a lot of supply in doing so; MVP moves out to counterattack while Life is morphing broods. They pop just as MVP sieges up at Life's 4th. MVP has 6 vikings to take on the broods and just a few corruptors; Life tries to chain fungal them down, but loses lots of infestors to tank fire while doing so. MVP loses lots of tanks/vikings, Life loses lots of broods, but is able to reinforce with corruptors barely fast enough to make sure MVP won't have enough anti-air to hold the position and forces him to retreat.

Life continues to use roach runbys to try to keep MVP's army in place while he gets his ideal composition; when MVP finally moves out again to try to hit Life's 5th, Life has 9 infestors and like 14 corruptors vs. 11 vikings and MVP has no thors, so even though the infestors can't get past the tanks to where the air battle is taking place Life just has too much. He pushes MVP back to his 4th with the broods where MVP ggs.

Unfortunately not that useful to learn from cause lol brood lords vs modern raven-viking mech compositions. I imagine ravens would have been effective for MVP here; this was a month after the "seeker missile no longer needs an upgrade" patch, and obviously PDD would help a lot in the air battles too. I guess it just wasn't something people had figured out yet?

I don't follow much of the NA scene, but why is Avilo hated? He seems annoying from the few times I've heard of him, but anything specific?

I think just that, he's annoying. From twitch chat I've gleaned that he plays a super boring turtle style and is the type to always blame losses on balance and **** like that.

He is basically Idra except he's never been better than a mediocre ladder hero

idra is also a lot more knowledgeable and smarter in general

So, did some unit tester experiments today after talking with bsball about a game where my opponent went mass void on 2 base (don't worry, I won) and we were curious whether it's better to go hydras or mutas. Came to a fairly surprising discovery: muta armor upgrades are better than attack upgrades against void rays, in every single situation. I think as Zergs we pretty much always prioritize attack, except in muta vs muta and I recently heard casters talking about the importance of armor upgrades against thor splash. But, unit tester results leave no doubt. This is equal supply (50 mutas vs 25 voids):

I think the last four tests are the most revealing, since they show the effect of the mutas having attack vs. armor while void upgrades stay the same. In every situation, the mutas do better against the voids with armor upgrades than with attack upgrades, which is completely contrary to what I would have expected.

Anyone else surprised by this or am I just a tard who's only now coming to this conclusion? Makes me wonder what other situations we should be prioritizing armor upgrades...

Here's another common situation: a couple dropships of 3/3 marines (16 of them, w/ stim + combat shield) vs a pack of 20 mutas. Would you rather have 3/0 or 0/3?

The 0/3 is a little better!! What??? (this is over 5-6 tests, so there could be variance affecting the results, but every test with 3/0 had between 10-12 mutas left and every test with 0/3 had between 11-13 left).

Lategame mech with 3/3 vikings (thanks for the free upgrades David Kim!), 20 units apiece:

In this situation, attack is better. This is fascinating, I wonder what the determining factors are that swing it towards one side being better than the other? (fwiw, attack continues to be better even if I add 20 more mutas so that they're winning the fight)
