I played pretty well last night, on a nice 5 game win streak. I'm getting gold this season, no doubt in my mine.

But not tonight, I'm drinking tonight. And Friday through Sunday.

It was at horseshoe southern indiana. It was at 2am and there were like 3 rly bad players and only like 4 bad players and 2 ok ones. I just haven;t played NL in forever and played rly ****ing bad. I was likely the 3rd or 4th best player at the table which is a joke given I played full time pre bf..... Though not NL.

- probably a mistake, but make OL on 9 not 10
- Your first OL is out in no man's land, on most maps I try to find a way to sneak it behind my opponent's natural or main, on Akilon I always send it as pictured below. Against Protoss they'll have stalkers out later so you can just rally it directly to that spot instead of having to move along the edge of the map once marines might be out and about. That's a good spot vT on Akilon, you can easily see both a.) when they expand b.) what buildings they're placing at their main ramp (which is usually where all the tech goes).


first OL path: blue = ZvT, green = ZvP

- Learn to add eggs to hotkeys. It takes a few games to get used to but is SO WORTH IT. SO WORTH IT. If you're making lings, then press 4szzzzz, then hold control and click an egg in the unit selection view at the bottom of the screen; now all the eggs you just made are selected. Then shift+1. Next time you right-click your army control group, your eggs will be rallied to the spot where you sent your army. No more going back to your rally spot to add units to your control groups! The big adjustment you need to make when doing this is that units need to be made in clumps; like, you don't want overlord eggs getting mixed in with your army hotkey, so you'll want to do something like 4svv4szzzz to make sure that you're only selecting zergling eggs and not getting any overlords mixed in there.
- Similarly, once you're making your units in those clumps, rally overlords after you make them - like, 4svv, right-click on the minimap where you want them to go - usually I throw them in the back of my main or something. You typically don't want them rallying to your main rally point, because then Protoss sends their first 4 stalkers over to your base and sees 4 overlords chilling at the front of your natural and put you into supply block hell basically for free.
- 8:00: yeah, we all learn the hard way to make that early baneling nest
- When you get more comfortable controlling lings and banes, one thing you'll want to start doing (at least, I think it's pretty helpful) is to put them on separate control groups; when you engage, r-click lings past their units, r-click banes towards the units, switch back to ling group, do an a-move when they're in a good position to surround, then switch back to bane group and spam r-clicks onto marine clumps. When the marines all die, move the banes away. This is a pretty efficient way of keeping banes from detonating on tanks or marauders or what have you, which is super cost-inefficient.
- Focus on upgrades a little more; baneling speed is super necessary against T, if you want to use roaches a lot then roach speed is important, hydra range/speed really good too if you utilize those, basically get whatever is necessary for your units to be as effective as possible.

i always wondered how to make the units/overlords not end up in the same place...also didnt know that you were supposed to 9 overlord

i think i sent my overlord to his natural first, and then swung him around to later fly through the main. can they fit in that little corner next to the main ramp? didnt think that was big enough

bane was just reactionary, altho im not sure if roaches woulda been a better choice. vs his push. i cant imagine that ever working against a decent zerg, but luckily he was pretty bad and couldnt just win from there. after that, game played out so strangely, i think i either never had enough money for upgrades or drones/units and was kinda stuck to chose. pretty sure a couple times i tried to upgrade hydras but didnt have money. that open/his random unit making kinda made it a frantic game

Can still outplay you in dota/sc2. I switched to LoL because I wanted to give it another shot, and a lot of 2p2 guys play.

OK hand I was talking about earlier.

I had been playing like a nit mainly card/position dead and this hand comes along. I have JhJs like utg +2, FR table obv. I raise after one limp to 11 and get 4 callers. Flop is Kh5cQs everyone checks, the turn is the Qh everyone checks, the river is the 9h the 2 people in front of me check and I decide to bet for value and so that I don't have to show down this hand and look like a pussy. I bet 21 into the pot the two people behind me fold over to the BB, while this is going on I am having a conversation with the dealer who is a Buffalo Bills fan about the Bills, and it the past in spots like this people have made "bad" folds because casual conversation looks like you're strong imo. The BB who is younger like 25-29 thinks for a bit and c/r to 44 more, old Asian guy folds it's 44 to me and I have literally no idea wtf he could ever have here.

Also as I tank I see that he has set a $1 chip on his cards which he had always done when he was going to tip the dealer. You all know when people to that ****, push their cards in with the tip on top of it. He looks calm and that's the only thing I really notice... wtf to do?

I tend to dumb down my thought process a lot for live poker since your opponents prob aren't thinking as much as you'd give them credit for online and just fold.

Prob check river though, third pair doesn't seem like a value bet spot against 4 other people?

just check the river. there are a lot of live players who will check down even AK here (slowplay flop then get scared of the Q) and i think you valueown yourself more than having someone call w/ worse. in general live games are extremely passive. not many bluffs not many valuebets. when you get river c/r'd you need a really good reason to call and you don't seem to have one.

a really general 1rax-expand build that i can adapt
how to react to scouting info (scouted a 4gate and threw down 4 bunkers and won!)
and
general hotkeying of army instead of F2

has improved my play.

check the river. people have Kx all the time there and people are not calling with worse unless you have some read that they're loose

i often end up calling in spots similar to this, but i wouldn't here because the draw got there and he could easily have JT. If the river was an offsuit 2 or something I could see myself calling because the only hand we can realistically have that's calling a river c/r is 22 and if he's at all thinking, he can exploit that

i also usually raise more than you do. i get criticized for it a lot, but i can often raise to 12+bb per limper and get more of a realistic number of callers (1-2 instead of the usual 3-5)

put a red on your cards as you casually rip it in

zerg is way all in. The third hatch is basically just for larva. Storms just crush hydras, and Jangbi has the best storm control of basically any protoss ever.
