How did he ever make a living before? He's basically at the peak of his pro gaming career (not that he's ever won anything, but in that "people know who he is", 2 months ago I sure as hell didn't).

he was coaching for 20 bucks an hour, which is like 2x cheaper than most people with a name like him and grandmaster.

Not sure if he streamed, but you can probably make 5 bucks an hour doing that with near 1k viewers. Root prob paid a little bit for a few things.

All in all, 99.9% of progamers are pretty busto anyways...

I'd never recommend to anyone but the most talented and motivated and even charismatic players to ever try to be a progamer... at any games... Sad but true.

Were f2p games very popular in 2010? I wonder if Blizzard's kinda dug their grave with the SC2 business model before it became clear that f2p would be way superior and there isn't really a way out for them at this point. They could maybe do something where one race is free but you have to buy the game to unlock the other races? Or races are nerfed somehow (like, not all units available, though you'd have to balance it somehow so that Zerg doesn't have literally no anti-air the whole game if you don't shell out da $$) if you're playing free version? The starter edition isn't really "f2p" since iirc before I bought WoL I couldn't really do **** with the free version, and I guess now you can use spawning or w/e to play games in parties which barely matters cause everyone knows the real action is on THE LADDER which you can't do w/o buying WoL + HotS.

idk what my point is, I'm still at work and I'm tired. But I think SC2 is a pretty sweet game and that if SC2 was free/kind of free it would be as popular as LoL.

whats the biggest free game ever to get competitive? thought the golden days were in mid 2000s like wc3/cs/quake. moon was making like 2 mil a year at some point, and im pretty sure fatal1ty is/close to a millionaire, but they still had regular 100k+ tourneys back then

Is there some kind of difference between today's WCS and a couple of month's ago's GSL? Is there just a GomTV Korean tournament every couple of months that is called various things, or is there some important difference between them?

OnGameNet is running this season (hence the "OSL" branding), but generally no, not much of a difference between current WCS and previous GSL.

Moon/Grubby in wc3 were outlines I`d say that most progamers were really really poor and with sc2 there is much more money.

are you familiar with cs scene? i would think that top tier euro/asian team players were making like 40-75k for a couple years. not a ton, but pretty easy to live off of in your mid 20s.

i feel like rain was relying pretty heavily on the chargelot/immortal/storm composition that entire series. seems like a 2 base ghost push would wreck him? or would he just scout it and tech to colossus instead of storm?
