Think I like Protoss and Terran much much better than Zerg

Zerg just do not click with me. Not intuitive at all. Maybe I'm missing the bigger picture and will have an "A-ha!" moment. But I'm just having terrible experiences trying to play Zerg

I'm sure it's different for everyone, Zerg makes much more sense to me than T/P where I never felt that comfortable playing them. I'm still terrible at it, of course, but being diamond with a race I'm terrible at means I have oh so much potential!

Ha, I wasn't trying to be mean or anything. I just don't ever think it starts feeling like you're actually good at this game.

Haha, I get that. I'm a ton better than I was at first and it just feels like the more I know about it, the more I know how terribly I suck. It's like I'm getting worse!

I feel like I'm smurfing on ladder right now, despite probably never being higher MMR than I am now. I have yet to face an actual challenging opponent.

Welcome to starcraft. You can know everything about the game and you'll feel that you're better and you'll see that you're better, but none of it matters if you don't have the mechanics. It was one of the most frustrating things for me when I played. I'd basically know what I should do and how to counter what I scout, but I'd lose so much because I wasn't fast enough or couldn't out micro their army.

That, and I lack a competitive streak to make me actually play ladder enough to better myself. I made it to top 8 plat and the guys I was playing were mouth breathers, so there is hope for almost anyone to break into diamond.

I can't tell you how many masters players in NA are complete droolers. You just have to practice to get good at pressing the right buttons on your keyboard at the right time.

You don't have to tell me. I have a very strong grasp of how bad masters players are. Go get it got there by 4 gating. We were very close to the same skill level, he was/is better than me, but not so far ahead that I felt that I couldn't beat him. So, I think if I had the drive, I could be there also. I know how bad I am, so... yeah

People were so much worse when he did that. Even so, I told GGI the other day I think he could still make masters by only 4gating, and I do think that. It would be a lot harder than before, but he (or anyone sufficiently motivated really) could do it IMO. Realistically, any race could probably just pick a cheese/AI build and do it every game and get to masters.

I would say most masters players are fairly solid in some areas, but also have glaring leaks in other areas, which makes them look really bad if you can exploit that. For instance, I find most masters players have little to no multitasking ability, including myself (it's one of the weakest parts of my game for sure). So when I do something like send mutas into his main base and also send a ling runby to their 3rd base, it does a ton of damage because they don't have the ability to defend that kind of thing competently.

Even so, just macroing somewhat competently is enough. Goofy would be masters pretty easily IMO if he ever learns how to stop floating 5k minerals at the 15 minute mark. Aside from my recent ZvTs where I feel like I'm actually controlling the game extremely well, I pretty much only win games by having more **** than my opponent can handle.

Unranked ZvT vs gold. I went 3 hatch before pool. He went 5rax AI.

I HELD. LIKE A ****ING BOSS.

I feel like this is the best ZvT I've played in awhile. Then I look at the replay and all I see is how bad I am.

Can anyone tell me what some benchmarks are for timings/supply/etc are going ling heavy and fast 3 base in zvt?

I ask because one thing that helped me learn a lot in the past was the filtersc videos. When I played Terran, he had the 1rax fe build and said you should have X SCVs at 8 minutes, like 50 at 10 minutes, and if you didn't then work harder on your macro. When I switched to Zerg he had the 2 base roach build and said you need to have 35 drones by 6 minutes and 50 by 8 minutes and if you don't, work on your macro. And that was something I could at least practice over and over vs the AI until I nailed it.

Now, though, I'm just kind of winging it, and more importantly than a build order or anything, even if I had one I wouldn't know how to measure if I'm executing it well without those guidelines. Any suggestions? I'd love to dive into practice mode vs AI and just crank out lings until I have a clue what I'm doing and am not running a 3k bank after 12 minutes.

Watch some pro replays to get a feel for it. Most importantly though is judge based on your bank. You shouldn't have one. If you have a 2k bank and 120 supply you could be maxed....

despite barely playing at all for 6 months, im pretty confident i could get masters MMR (maybe not the direct promotion cause blizz is silly) within 2 weeks of coming back at full time play.

why am i confident of that? because i can still roach max w/ lair, +2, burrow, speed at 12:30. haha. checked it out the other night in the multitasking trainer.

can someone clarify the MMR system for unranked vs ranked....are they completely seperate, or is the unranked MMR always frozen at what your ranked MMR is?

There's no way unranked is frozen at ranked. As I have no rank in the ranked playlist, and play between gold and masters players in unranked.
