I think Idra gives pretty good insight as well, I enjoyed his guest stints as a commentator. Agreed that his delivery needs work but the quality of the material is there IMO.

Uh he said early in his career that he would only play for a year then quit for school again. He renegged that once but it's not like this is out of the blue.

personality wise i would forever disagree. he talked trash, made excuses, acted cocky well beyond his skill level. yes its very likely there will never be another foreigner as dominant as him again, but there wont be as imbalanced a time either. roach vP patchzerg vT and play that well = grossly inflated winrate.

I think you are wrong. About everything.

His personality? He was a witty Frenchy with a sharp sense of humour. A lot of people didn't really get him and thought he was just some arrogant ******* but I don't think thats true at all. That mostly comes from misinterpreting him.

It was never EZmode for his style, he just made it look like it was.

Patchzerg? Jesus man, you really don't have a clue. He won multiple premier events waaaaay before the patch. That's like calling Nestea a patchzerg.

And yes he did it for the money. So does everyone. Flash only does it for the money too.

I mean both sides are correct. Sure, he may have planned to retire last year and was "convinced by EG to stay", but ofc that was probably largely (if not wholly) because of the money; now that he's doing poorly in HOTS and he realizes the effort to get back to the top with all the KeSPA players requires more than showing up at weekend LANs and ezmoding a top 3 finish, he probably decided "you know what? **** it i'll go back to school".

it's not something that really changes my opinion on him- he was always a little **** in my eyes. in that sense, i agree with gamboneee that people that disliked him will go "oh yea that's stephano, jumping as soon as things got hard lol" and the people that liked him will say "sad to see him go, he was such a good player". he was an elite foreigner for a long time...don't think anyone can doubt that.

And I don't think anyone would ever claim stephano had close to the work ethic that the top koreans did, and that it had nothing to do with why he has started being a lot worse as of late.

He had the worst work ethic progaming has maybe ever seen. That just made people love him more.

And we've come full circle.

Some people loved him because of his work ethic/style where he could show up, get drunk, and destroy people who had spent weeks more practicing than he had, and the fact that he just up and left because the money was no longer worth his time and he didn't give a crap about starcraft anymore (EV and all that jazz).

Some people disliked him because he was really lazy/appeared to be a dick/ conveniently left when he started being bad (regardless of whether or not he had planned to leave).

and just FYI, I buy the "He was planning to leave all along and the fact that he is bad now has little to nothing to do with it" extremely little. Of course the man was going to stay if he kept doing well.

i would love to be proven wrong, at least i'd have something to watch later. in what games did he not infestor brood lord vs elite terrans? his zvz seemed to be decent, but how often did he play a top level zerg when it mattered? these are real questions that i dont know the answer to.

he did absolutely nothing to help the community grow outside of spreading his own fanbase from anything i've ever seen.

LOL no. It was vs 3 base terran. It was with a roach hydra composition. It wasn't a roach bust and then make some hydras when the game is over. He also won a game in pro league with it.

In all honestly if we go by absolute top peak ever I think naniwa at his best was better than stephano was, but I agree that is a controversial opinion

Stephano was definitely the best foreigner in WOL (by money, consistency, tournaments won, etc.) but we all know best foreigner doesn't mean a whole lot by itself. I am of the opinion that even at his best, he was never a top 5 player in the world and that his lackluster ZvZ held him back from truly being top top top level caliber. You can argue that his elite level ZvP and ZvT were enough to put him pretty high, but let's put it this way- he was never ever going to win a GSL.

look to my post right above that you ignored entirely. cant you just name the match in which it happened? no, apparently that was too much and you need to nitpick a handful of games over a year of play.
