dude, your goal should be to only make turrets when you need them. you should recognize it's not optimal and try to use them when they're necessary

if you're going to try and master a build, you should try and master a good one and not a ****ty one that won't work often when you move up.

in other news, i played one of the weirdest zvt games i've ever played earlier today going on no sleep around noon. it all started when i wasn't paying attention and accidentally went pool first for no good reason.

counter to hellions more lings imo.

Just played a terran whom I proxy stargated into oracles. He used a scan on my main, which I think is a waste just probe scout imo, then expanded. A min later 2 oracles showed up in his main line and killed off 100% of probes. Insta quit.

I have never proxy SGed before, might have to start trying that more often.

Rage, I learned the build from a #1 ranked terran on NA servers. I don't understand how it doesn't work often when you move up. He wins a huge % of the time doing this. Granted, it's not ALWAYS a blind turret, but a lot of the time it is.

I'm not arguing at this point, I'm just explaining to you why I do it, and that it's proven to be effective even at high levels.

Also, dudeman above me just proved why it's sometimes hard as hell to scout protoss. They proxy stargate so damn much. I am not good enough, nor have the capability of reading into a build enough to know that he is missing a structure, so there must be a proxy. How do you scout proxies?

Can you find games in his vods where he does blind turret? I looked at two TvPs of his and neither had blind turrets (one he scouted completely and built turrets after scouting stargate, other he actually didn't have turrets at all when his opponent DID go stargate).

I "scouted" a proxy stargate recentlyish on Korhal City when I saw my opponent have like 2 gates + core + no expansion around 5-6 minutes. He's either awful or is hiding tech somewhere, and that tech was likely stargate, so I built spores and won easily when his proxied oracles did nothing.

And I'm pretty bad.

You just have to know what Protoss builds look like. If they don't expand, then there's only so much they can do:
- 4gate
- 3gate robo
- blink stalkers (twilight)
- DTs (twilight + dark shrine)
- stargate

If you see no expansion and none of the above, then something's proxied. Or they're awful.

I won a TvP where I was down in supply 132 to 62, and I did it without making a single imbavac. I did make a planetary in his natural tho.

Did I read correctly when I saw that, at least in Bronze, that when you lose they take points out of your bonus pool instead of deducting points from your ladder?

I get about 40 points for a win and lose 0 for a loss, but it seems like it's only maybe -2 from my bonus pool.

EDIT: Confirmed. Losses take points from bonus pool. I also only play WoL.

What am I looking for when I scout protoss' base when looking for immortals + sentries + zealots all in around 7:30 or so - 8:00.

When do you get a 2nd/3rd bunker up? When should I be scouting for expansion?

Iirc check the gasses at his natural...if he has none it's either a gateway timing or a really fast third. Other than that, I'm not really sure

The first thing you want to check is if it's a 1 base all in. By 5:00 or so (good 4gate hits by 6:00, and gateways take 1:05 to build) if you can get a scout on his main (keeping your early reaper alive is pretty helpful for this reason!), if you see no expansion + lots of production buildings/tech in his main (4 gates, 3 gates + robo, etc) then get ready.

On the flip side, things like forges could tip you off that he intends to go for a macro game even if he takes a late expansion (unless it's some kind of +1 or +2 timing).

But really, with the addition of the mothership core, gate -> core -> expand is pretty standard and safe against Terran - it's basically the Protoss equivalent of the 1rax FE w/ bunker, kind of. So, much like when you scout Terrans not taking a fast expansion, a Protoss doing something other than taking their own fast expansion should tip you off to be vigilant.

btw, did they do something to make worker AI extra-******ed in HotS? I've had a lot of difficulty killing SCVs with my scouting drone since the expansion came out. I'll attack the worker and then shift-a-click it a bunch more times (to make my drone keep attacking the SCV as it bounces around the rax building it) and while in WoL this used to result in the SCV dying like always if T didn't pull a worker or two to stop me, in HotS the drone will completely derp once the SCV bounces elsewhere and run like straight into the building instead of going around it to get the SCV. Assuming Terran pulled another worker, my drone will now have taken enough damage during this derping that there's no way I'll kill the SCV before losing my drone.

I was messing around on EU server last night and had a protoss completely crush me with a chargelot, archon, ht 1-base all in.

I had tanks and bunkers, and was lolling at him when I noticed zealots gathering outside of my natural. I laughed as he moved up my ramp up until the wtf moment when storms melted everything. I was pretty dumbfounded.

It's always been like that, Goofy. The thing that pisses me off is you can't target the scv sometimes since the barracks hides him at certain angles.

Really? Always? I was killing SCVs so easily in WoL as long as I did the shift-a-click thing.

Maybe I was doing the shift commands wrong but I felt like in WOL my drone would always derp out on that tricky SCV all the time as well. Dunno.
