Zerg buddies: I've been doing poorly against mech playing ZvT. What's my ideal composition? I feel like once Terran gets those armory upgrades, it's soooo hard to take down a decent-sized thor/tank/hellion force with roaches, and I dunno what to support the roaches with for maximum efficiency since just about everything I can build gets countered somehow (tanks tear up roaches, hellions tear up lings, thors tear up mutas, and unlike against bio infestors and banelings just don't do that much).

Teching to BLs without opening myself up to midgame timings is hard :/ Do I just rush hive/greater spire faster than usual once I identify it's mech? Is it useful to try to hit any midgame timings myself where I can do a lot of damage with mutas before he has a high thor count?

max to roaches, get 4 bases, once ur maxed get BL tech, suicide army and remax on BLs/infestor with some roach/ling meat

you have to suicide your army cost efficiently though otherwise he'll just a-move and crush you

You can just go ****ing kill him before he hits any decent army benchmark if you scout the mech early enough. Send an overseer in after/during any hellion/banshee stuff to see what he's transitioning into. If it's mech, drop a roach warren if you haven't, get +1 ranged and roach speed, then just spam him with units until he dies. Opening hellion/banshee into mech means he will not have many tanks for a long time (even longer if you open spire because he needs to build thors first) You can also do what I do and kill him with 8 mutalisks, then transition to the roach spam if he's not so bad as to lose straight up to the mutas.

I guess you could also take a 4th and maybe 5th instantly upon scouting mech and rush greater spire. It's kinda dodgy to do this though IMO because if he scans your hive/greater spire timing, you're ****ed because he'll push before maxing out. I'm not that comfortable with this style because I default to the aggressive stance above and it pretty much always works.

basically what I'm afraid of if I play mech tvz is roach drops. you don't have anything that kills overlords quickly (like marines) so dropping either on the production or on the tanks is great. you gotta do damage somehow and not just let him max out without taking any losses. roach drops / ling roach runbys etc, find a weakness and exploit it.

zergs playing passive i just roflstomp with mech usually, although I guess going tier3 and playing a very good macro game is viable (I just haven't faced it done well)

I know there are some math people in SC2 forum, how would one go about solving:

(X*.06) + X = 1000?

I know the answer, I just have no idea how to solve this. It was a question I overheard about tax. As in someone had $1000 to spend and sales tax here is 6% therefore what is the max, rounded off, that they could spend before tax. I thought I could do it in my head, as whenever I hear a random math question I have to try and solve it. (nerd alert) But I couldn't solve this without cheating and using a calculator.

Also I think I have the problem set up correctly, as I initially thought when I heard this that it was X*.06=1000 which is clearly wrong given the premise of the problem above.

are you asking to solve for X when you know .06x+x=1000?

You're looking at .06x + x = 1000. So factor out an X and you get x(.06+1) = 1000.

Then you get 1.06x = 1000. Then divide, x = 1000/1.06. x = 943.40.
