Finally lost a game when I got 3 pylon blocked It still went, like, 40 minutes lol but he built a ton of blink stalkers and I could never get enough to overcome them and hold a 3rd.

What are good ZvT builds? I'm winning all my ZvTs against crappy silver players but they're almost all going to ~30 minutes while I tech to broods, I don't know any midgame kill moves. I've tried baneling busts and it seems like I always fall just short in terms of having enough to kill them, and I never know what the right spot for roaches is in the ZvT matchup because of marauders/siege tanks.

after watching a 2 medivac drop of hellbats just straight up kill 5 roaches and some queens moments after vaporizing my drone line, i dunno what to do

Something I've been trying in all matchups on my smurf: drone scouting on 9. It confers the following benefits:

ZvZ: identify early pools/gas, allowing me to respond in kind; if I see an early pool I 14p 15h (my drone arrives on 14), otherwise if they go 14p or hatch first I'll go 15h 15p.
ZvT: more limited benefit since this will happen less as my smurf's MMR improves, but I've been killing like 1.2 SCVs per game with drone harassment lol. also identifies early gas and presence of second rax or factory or CC.
ZvP: least useful; identifies cannon rushes or gateway first builds (will be less common as I move up, lots of tards in silver 4gating terribly) so I can respond accordingly, allows me to hatch block vs FFE if I want

I'm trying, in general, to focus on having complete knowledge and map awareness at all times, and the early scout helps work towards that. One thing I'm not sure of is how damaging it is to my economy - is it a bad tradeoff to send a drone out that early?

You are losing 11% of your early economy to get a slightly earlier scout. Yes. It's harmful.

The only match-up where I really see it as remotely acceptable is ZvZ when you are hatch firsting and want to play SUPER safe or if you are going to 10 pool cheese and want to see if you should pull drones.

It doesn't make any sense in the other match-ups. Drone scout on 12 vs. T (you can still see everything in more than enough time). I don't drone scout at all in ZvP. Overlords will tell you anything you need to know.

ZvT seems to be roach, hydra into viper ultra all the time but dealing with hellbat drops is a huge bitch. Little packs of 5 roaches at every mineral line is what I am trying to do but with the speed boost and how strong they are I can't help but take damage. Don't think there is time to go muta to kill the medivacs and transition and vs T muta's seem to suck in general (unlike vs P and Z where they rule). Basically I am basing my whole early and mid game around just stopping hellbat drops and yet they are still worth it...

The proposed nerf where they make them take 4 spaces in medivac isn't enough. They should not be bio and able to heal either imo.

It's ruining TvT. You know a unit is OP when the race's own players want it nerfed.

In your own words (ish): "It's hard for people to sign up for a tournament where they know they're going to get completely owned". The IPL qualifiers I played in were mostly masters+ players that I know of, yet those were uncapped and much more publicized and prestigious than this.

I guess that's part of the reason - I'd never consider signing up for an IPL qualifier or whatever because I have literally a 0% chance of success, but I'd consider signing up for this because it's less of a commitment and the player cap means I at least have a nonzero chance of finishing in the top 20% to move on to a group stage I can play in my pajamas for ****s and giggles. I personally wouldn't want to take a spot away from someone that might actually care about playing competitively though (like you, whose competitive spirit I admire!).

Hah it's definitely true. I went to one local SC2 LAN tunamelt (the one hosted by RuMCaKe!) and I never bothered with any online or local ones after that because my only two games were against players that were GM (didn't exist at the time but they were top 200).

somebody help me...I just heard a song on TV (Breaking Bad Season 3 finale) and I'm 100% sure I've heard part of it infinite times before.
