I was watching NASL MMA vs Taeja, the interview before game 3 was with some hot girl. It was the most hilarious thing i've ever seen in live casting. Anyone else see this/know where I can find a replay of it? tried to look it up but it's driving me crazy.
she said Major was "Major" (called him fat on live stream), and was being really disrespectful/racist/stupid the whole time. I was in tears. The other caster ended it by saying "ok, lets move on to... anything else."

I think so. They have novice versions of...

Blistering Sands
Desert Oasis
Steppes of War
Metalopolis
Kulas Ravine

Metalopolis is pretty hilarious, you're walled into your main by rocks (SoW gives you 3 bases before rocks, all the other maps 2). lol zerg!

I imagine most people haven't seen this: (dunno if you need to be GSL subscriber or not)

http://www.gomtv.net/2012gnn/vod/

Starting with GSL News Network episode 1 (the Oct. 2 video), the 2nd half of the 2nd vid has a mockumentary of Startale Legend (the observer for the English stream of the GSL) trying to become a pro gamer. It's ****ing HILARIOUS. Watch it now. Or maybe after IPL is done for today. But watch.

That awkward moment where your warp prism 4gate in the guy's main is held (after you take out a CC + barracks, at least) cause he got the fastest stim ever plus early marauders and looking at the replay it turns out he was breaking down your rocks when the attack hit and if he didn't turn around to hold your attack it would 100% have been a base trade to the death which you might have lost, but he did so you LOLed heartily and outmacroed him the rest of the way

Inspired by your post, I went into 1v1 obs to play a few games; played 3 games against the same zerg cause nobody else in the lobby was playing. ZvZ I lost to an early ling rush, TvZ I lost because my macro was awful and I built up a 3k mineral bank, PvZ I lost because he went mutas and I held off initial harassment but then he built like 30 mutas and he killed all my stalkers. I'm only really concerned about the last game cause I'm not sure how to counter that - what should my response be when he goes super-mass mutalisks?

Disclaimer: I don't play protoss.

There was a period when muta was very popular against Protoss. I think the correct response was blink stalkers combined with sentry guardian shield. You have to micro your stalkers to blink away the front ones once they are low -- mutas have pretty poor range in comparison so they can't chase the red ones once you blink them backwards. The guardian shield reduces damage on all the bounces on the muta projectile (if i remember correctly), which adds up to a lot of damage reduction.

Going fast expand into stargate usually deters zerg from going mutas as well, since phoenix are extremely effective against mutas in smaller numbers. It's too risky to tech switch completely into phoenix if you've already started your standard gateway composition though since they can just SRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR and you're dead.

depends at what point in the game he gets them. someone on TL made a good post about a week back regarding all things PvZ.

if you already have robo tech, don't make any colossi but you often want a few observers to be able to tell where the mutas are.

other than that, get as many cannons as you need to survive while getting blink and a templar archives asap with storm. storm>>>>>archons.

if he really is going mass mass muta, just make a million cannons everywhere- remember that he can always force a base trade if he wants, so make it such that it's not beneficial for him to do so.

also remember that mutas are often accompanied with ling/bling, so throwing in a colossus or two once you've got sufficient templar is usually a good idea.

You need to scout that he's going mutas. If he shows up with like 12 mutas and you had no idea it was coming, you already lost the game. Mutas snowball harder than any other unit except blink stalkers, so if you get behind, you're ****ed, plain and simple. Other than that, you just need to survive (preferably on 3 bases, but unless it was really early, you might not get it) until you get a scary army. Get storm and cannons, as 1 HT + cannons make harassment impossible and a base race very cost inefficient.

Great post. Entirely agree.

i guess if you can scout spire really really early, you can go phoenixes, you can't really catchup on the muta count with phoenixes if there's already 10+ mutas on the map

I struggle really hard with getting map vision against zergs to be able to scout stuff like this (I almost never see mutas coming), I guess as Toss I need to get a couple observers out but as T I just drop scans at various times until I figure out what the tech is. That's probably not ideal.

Never go phoenix unless you already opened SG. Even then, phoenix is not a great choice. Stephano once said that if you go phoenix vs his mutas, he already won the game.

And yeah goofy, scouting is super important. IDK how you're opening, but robo openings are pretty weak to muta openings, especially the current ones that don't get a lot of early stalkers. Makes starting the snowball laughably easy when I show up and all you have is a round of stalkers at best.

I usually get up to like 2 or 3 gates off a FFE before building my robo, then adding more gates. Late robo makes it pretty hard to scout though, right? Once Z gets some speedlings out they have total map control.

I don't really know that much about toss BOs, but observers are pretty much always the first thing out of a robo. If you can't get an observer out across the map to your opponent's base in time, you should either be all-ining or opening SG and scouting that way. And it's mostly mutas that make it that way IMO. Infestors are fine to go unscouted since it's the most likely option anyway, and infestors are not great offensive units at that stage. Luckily, mutas aren't really a huge part of the metagame right now, but I expect them to come back soon since people open robo most of the time.
