The last 2 days I have seen a weird trend. Protoss going 1 base 4 gate all in vs me which is super easy to defend. And terran going nothing but Thors and some hellions with SCVs to repair which is super hard to play against because I can't kill the thors. How do people play against all Thor armies with zerg?

What the heck is going on with all of this high school drama in the Starcraft community? Destiny flipping out, DJ Wheat going bananas, so many people acting like Starcraft is going nowhere fast and that the game is dying, people thinking they have a voice, etc. etc.

It would be nice to see BNET get a major overhaul, but I just don't get it. A lot of people are panicking and acting like a bunch of 10 year olds. It's seriously tilting the piss out of me and you can't avoid it anywhere you go if you want to read a few things about the game.

Are people really afraid that LoL and DotA2 are going to take over the esports scene? Did social media really create a bunch of monsters in the 21st century?

Yeah, think the problem here is that Blizzard is pretty clueless as to what they're doing with the game.

But yeah, he seems right about many of Blizzard's decisions being pretty head-scratching in retrospect and they're kinda morans at making their game better.

But from this it created a ****storm. It's like everyone suddenly woke up thinking they had a voice, as if they had an input on the final outcome of the game. There is so much drama on Reddit.

It seems like there is a big shift coming due to prize money.

A lot of what I've been reading has been over the course of a week or two so I don't exactly have a lot of the sources and what I've been hearing, but it's getting so out of control that it's like the world is about to come to a halt.

I think this competition over these games is great. It's really just market forces playing out. 10 years ago the LoL and DotA genre of video games didn't exist and so it's only natural that there is a shift.

The nice thing about LoL and DotA is that they are free. DotA is pretty much free because there are a lot of people willing to give out an extra key. And the added benefit of DotA that I love is that you can randomly win loot that applies directly to different heroes. For example, for playing a game I got a new mace for a different hero. It is purely cosmetic, but creating a collection or completing sets is f'ng awesome.

I don't know though. It tilts me so bad to see people whining about this game, a lot of people thinking they have an opinion. Reddit is turning into a big suckhole. This new generation is going to hell, and I'm very serious about that. Cellphones, facebook, twitter, reddit, it's destroying kids these days.

It seems to me like it should have been fairly obvious that the HotS beta would decline pretty quickly. It's not like the WoL beta where all the pros have no prior obligations. All tournaments are still using WoL, and as long as they continue to do so, it's basically just a waste of time for pros to play HotS. It doesn't help that HotS apparently sucks really bad, but unless Blizzard somehow got it perfect enough on the first try for tournaments to be comfortable switching, this was always going to happen. Nothing can really be judged IMO until well after HotS is released.

People are just super antsy about it probably because of TI2 drawing over 550k viewers and LoL S2 drawing 1.1M, whereas SC2 has never gotten close afaik (maybe GOM does, I have no idea, but I think MLG is generally like 250kish). SC2 players/fans in general also have a super elitist attitude that any game that's not SC2 sucks complete balls, so they can't possibly fathom that another game could be more popular. Combine those two things and you get the ****storm that's brewing atm.

I kinda get where Destiny is coming from (more casuals = more potential people who will turn to follow the scene), but it's not the only thing. It seems to me like there are a fair amount of viewers who don't even play the game, they just watch it. If that faction grows, then who cares how accessible the game is because those people don't even care about playing it. I don't disagree with catering to casuals, since that can be done without cheapening the competitive experience, contrary to what people apparently believe. For example, all the suggestions Destiny listed in that article (achievements, etc) have no affect on someone like me who doesn't give a **** and just wants to ladder. But I don't think that's the only way to bring people in.

Competition is great, but not so much for companies/games that refuse to adapt. That's Destiny's point. Idra's and Incontrol's arguments might've made more sense in the pre-SC2 world where there were no real competitors. In order for SC2 to stay one of the top titles within esports today Blizzard needs to be in on it.
