I'm learning from my mistakes! So I had a TvP (which is supposed to be a good matchup for me) earlier where I went m/m/m but emphasis on the first m and got roasted by like 3 colossi at his base; it didn't help that I had my units try to target the colossi like a tard, when a lot of them couldn't get in range, but it feels kinda damned if you do damned if you don't in those battles - like, what are you gonna do, sit back and focus on units in the front and let colossi fry you? Sigh.

So, got another TvP just now so I decided to go m/m/m with emphasis on the second m (marauders! went 6 rax, 4 tech/2 reactor) and it worked out muuuuuuch better. He went with a composition of gateway units/colossi with a few void rays mixed in; in the first battle we fought, I had no vikings (I didn't scout his colossi at all, I scanned his front and saw gateway units with a couple void rays...oh, wait, I guess I should have made vikings anyway for the void rays! lol me), but I did okay in the fight (traded roughly even supply, he did slightly better) and retreated to my base. Fight #2, we're both maxed, he has 5 colossi and 6 void rays for my 10 vikings to deal with...yeah prob should have brought more. My 3/3 marauders are straight BEASTLY though (he has 2/1/1 lol) and tear through his ground army, but my vikings are taken out by the void rays and I have to retreat once all his ground forces are dead. Also he's on like 5 bases right now to my 3, and is up 30 supply despite having a smaller army than me based only on workers.

We remax, and this time I'm up to 12 vikings, but he's also up to 12 void rays and 4 colossi. It actually might have gone much differently if he focused down my vikings with his void rays, but he spent too much time firing at my ground units and so once my vikings cleaned up the colossi they took down the remaining void rays pretty easily. In desperation he warps in a round of dark templar, but I figure out they're there pretty quick and take them out after a scan. With his army supply down to 11, he quits!

Lategame TvP and dealing with colossi in general def feels like a leak for me, it feels good to win one. Here's the replay if anyone feels like seeing what the better end of a goofyballer SC2 game looks like these days. And trust me, it's still super ugly - I have no idea what "establishing map control" is, I don't scout his 4th or 5th bases ever, it takes me way too long to put my own 3rd and 4th up despite facing no pressure or resistance, I do a very poor job of scouting his tech (my scouting vs P is basically to figure out, "is he 4-gating?"), I forget to build units during battles. On the bright side, I did well with upgrades and didn't let my bank get to epically awful proportions (it got high a couple times, but I did wind up spending it all so I guess it was good to have).

Bonus replay: When 4-gating PvZ goes terribly wrong, drags out into a 20 minute game, and still results in this:

goofy, if i'm you in TvP i'm focusing more heavily on marauders than you probably should just because lower level Ps are going to be the type that both

-overbuild stalkers relative to zealots
-love colossi

and you're going to want a more marauder heavy composition vs both of those strategies. plus if you're marine heavy that requires better micro and splitting vs protoss AOE.

HELP

Having the most frustrating network problem.

Whenever we reset the cable modem (pull power, etc.) or lose the internet connection, my roommate's PC will not reconnect to the wireless network unless we do a FULL hard reset of the wireless router which is obviously really obnoxious. Has to be a new SSID, password, all flushed settings.

Otherwise it says "settings do not match." Even if I manually set up the network with the security settings, it still doesn't work. I've tried all different kinds of security configurations. Every other network device handles the changes fine. His PC requires a hard ****ing reset of everything.

WHAT IS WRONG DOEAR I WANT TO KILL THINGS

Check the wireless adapter settings, see if dhcp is working properly (in ipv4), disable/enable the adapter

can his pc ping the router IP, ipconfig /all and see if the ip isn't duplicate and is in the same range as default gateway

It is working now...

I changed the router from mixed wireless b/g/n to mixed wireless b/g

i changed security from WPA personal to WPA 2 personal

i then removed the network and auto configed it again

now it is connected, i have internet and i can surf quickly

HOWEVER

the wireless icon in the tray lower right still has the red "X" over it and still says "SETTINGS DO NOT MATCH"

despite the fact that the internet is clearly working. lol?

right now yeah ipconfig /all and all that is working. before when it wasn't working (before i did this fix), i tried an ipconfig /all and it said everything was disconnected. it could not ping the router. no connectivity what-so-ever. dhcp is enabled and i did try the enable/disable. i dont think the IP was duplicated, but i didnt check to be sure.

given my current fix, does that tell us anything?

does your roommate have an 802.11n wireless lan card?


about that icon, never trust it. what i generally do is ping 8.8.8.8 (google) much faster and reliable

I do think your bandwidth is gonna suffer if you leave it on b/g, n is pretty much the best in that regard, wireless isn't my strong point though, mostly work with wired networks
