same. i havent had cable for years. i only need it to watch sports, and i either stream football online (from shady sources) or go to a sports bar.

for baseball obv there's mlb.tv.

I still have cable, literally just for Laker games and football. But yea, we are on the same page there.

slingbox set up on my parent's cable (like they ever use both of their 2 TVs anyways... problem is if it breaks it's hard to fix seeing as i live in a different state hours away lol), "less than straightforward" streaming sites, mlb.tv, espn3, etc. it's easy to be covered with no cable

but not always with the best quality and sometimes it can get frustrating. for giants games i always go to the local DC giants bar.

Yea I mean it's easy to find places to watch stuff, but I have a decent sized tv and I'd rather just watch it in hd without the hassle.

My exception is boxing. I love boxing but yea.

I rolled Toss for the first time playing random, executed a terrible 4gate (15 gas, 17 core, forgot to make a stalker after zealot at gateway - all for no other reason than forgetfulness), first warp in at 6:21, and my opponent was not early expanding and had 3 raxes already.

Spoiler:
He also had exactly 2 marines, lawl! Toss OP

Clearly you just needed to make banelings in that game

that feel when you thought you played really well, saw the replay afterwards and notice your opponent floating 1.5k mins at the 10 minute mark

From today's ladder battlez, rolling random:
- play as Terran, scout my zerg opponent, I send my supply depot SCV out to scout and get there at 14 or 15 and see a.) no expansion b.) pool already done. I furiously build 3 rax before expanding instead of the usual 1...and no attack ever comes, and I figure out my opponent is just clueless instead of agro.
- play as Zerg, get speedling rushed - I had spines at my nat, but he just ran right by them into my main. How should I defend against that? He winds up bringing so many speedlings to my main that I eventually abandon it and basically dare him to attack my spine-filled natural. He obviously wins since I got such an awful start but I'm pretty proud of the fact that it took him 28 minutes to kill me (and he wasn't doing *anything* to my land army until he finally brought mutas against my roaches - kinda tilts me that I rolled zerg tbh when I would have raaaaped him as T).
- play as Protoss, try to 4gate, don't realize until my core finishes that I never bothered putting any probes into the assimilator I built. LOL. That didn't go so well.
- play as Terran, get 4gated, lose my natural (saved my CC by floating it to my main but all SCVs died), but did enough damage to his initial attack that he was hesitant to try to take my main, letting me get 5 rax and 50+ marines before he finally attacks; I turn him away and win the game!

Can anybody detail to me the experience of going to a LAN event (MLG in particular)? You don't need to give me a full TR, just a general run down, positives and negatives of going, and such. I'm considering going to MLG Raleigh as a graduation/birthday present, and wondering if it's worth the while.

Re, the ZvZ

Block your ramp with 2 queens side-by-side on hold position.

I went to MLG Providence last year.

Positives:
-get to see all the players you watch all the time up close
-autographs/pictures if you're into that kind of thing
-the atmosphere is pretty cool since you are basically surrounded by starcraft
-overall fun (got super drunk one night with friend before going out and walked around talking to random people)

Negatives:
-don't get to see as many games as you would if you watched the streams (we actually spent Saturday evening in our hotel because we didn't want to miss any of the important games)
-the place legitimately starts to smell in the evenings.
-weird interactions with people
-have to stand up basically the entire time and if you sit down, you're very close to bad smelling people

It's definitely worth it overall. Make sure your hotel is within close walking distance of the venue.

Pretty much everything bsball just said, including ditching Saturday afternoon lol. I did the same at Providence after I played my match (though I lived 30 minutes away, so I got to just go home and not hang in a hotel all day, which is boring as **** even with MLG going on).

It's also interesting to check out the other games. It was nice for me because I like LoL as well, so I actually watched that a lot on Sunday before the SC2 finals because I wasn't really interested in the SC2 matches. I think going if you aren't at least passably interested in other games might not be worth it, though SC2 is overwhelmingly the biggest game there, so it's not a major deal. At least, that's how it was at Providence, and it would probably be different at Raleigh because the LoL tournament is much bigger (it was only a 4-team invitational at Providence).

Also sign up to play IMO if you go. If nothing else, being a player got me a chair (actually two, until TLO took one) to watch the finals in since I watched from the player area. But you might as well take the opportunity.

Playing seems like it would be an embarrassment tbh, unless I trained real hard for the month I have. But, the chance to be closer to players for more often seems well worth it. I'll make sure to protect my nose if I go.

One of my friends was in gold league when he went, so unless you care about being embarrased, there are other worse people

I forgot to mention- definitely get a pass, as it allows you access into the "players area" where you get closer access to the players. You can't really bother them, but you can do cool stuff like watch them and play near them. I practiced next to bomber for about an hour

It's not really embarassing. Both of the matches I lost (vs Future and then AGIANTSMURF) were actually played at the station closest to the ropes. It wasn't really a big deal at all.

What was a bigger deal to me than that was just the setup. It was actually really weird not playing at home, despite using my own mouse/keyboard. It's one of those things that you see progamers obsess over all the time, and you kinda laugh at them for being so anal. Then you go and do it, and you understand why, because it actually is a lot more different than you might think.

progamers should obv have emulated setups identical to the MLG ones to practice on. i mean with the shape/size of the table, brand/size of the monitor, lighting, everything.

cant believe it's not done more often esp by teams with decent $$. it's not that expensive to do.
