This, though the big picture about cycling through your buildings is that you're building muscle memory and separating your hand movements from your eye movements. Your eyes should be focused on checking supply and minimap (information), while your hands should be building units (macro). You want to train yourself to be building units under any circumstance without having to think about it.
For example, when you scout with your SCV at the start, you can hotkey your CC to 1 and continue to control your SCV in the enemy's base while simultaneously keeping up SCV production by just tapping 1-S and never having to actually look at your base.
