Karak mentioned having a smurf account, do you need to basically buy the game again on a separate bnet account to do that?

you could also do custom games- just join one of those and dick around. that being said, the average custom game player is probably >>>> silver.

just switch races and go, find a build you like on youtube, practice it a few times against the computer, then hop on the ladder

If you want a smurf, then yeah, you have to buy the game again on another Bnet account. If you really want to switch races, then you should just tank your MMR and start over, but there's no real good way to dick around with another race.

yeah i would probably do team games first

you cant really practice build orders or anything but you can get a feel for the basics (unit production, hotkeys, tech paths, etc)

I just play custom 1v1s on Day Break (or whatever the most popular map is at the moment). Games fill quick, average player is probably plat/dia but good way to get better fast rather than team games IMO.

Also, watch GSL games for players who play the race similar to how you want (for example Parting for macro toss, MarineKing for micro terran, Nestea for reactive zerg...). Watch the production tab to see how they order their stuff and check out some times so you can check how close you are to doing it right (totally made up example 6:00 minutes 5 marines, bunker, CC, 2 rax and 2 gas). Doing that should get you to plat for any race.

goofy if you switch to zerg i can show you something you can do in a custom game vs. no opponent which, if you practice it, will get you to diamond with the skill set to quickly get to masters once you get decision making stuff down.

I agree.

When you're ahead with Terran it's not enough to just amove your overwhelming force and just win the game like that. You still have to control it very well (or else you can easily die to a smaller force of banelings and infestors). With Protoss you can safely amove in when you have the macro advtange and win with minimal control. Overall that aspect makes Protoss far less frustrating to play and therefore I no longer play Terran. I would assume Zerg is similar since they don't demand the level of control that Terran does (amove and fungal).

just randomly dceided to play a warm up game on my smurf cause i felt like i was moving slow tonight and ive lost way too many games on my main acct to just take another throw away loss

i go 15 hatch, 16 gas, 15 pool vs a guy who 10 pools me vertical spawn antiga and scouts my hatch first. for those who dont know, it's difficult to find a bigger hard counter in the game than 10 pool over 15 hatch in zvz esp when you spine rush (which he did).

however his micro was really bad and i managed to hold off his rush with pure drones. then he does a speedling/bane follow up which i hold but due to my first game sloppiness i dont notice 2 banes hiding in the steam vent and he blows up all but like 5-6 of my drones. he has like double my drone count easily at this point and he's been BMing the whole game (my acct name tilted him i think, as it does many people).

about 6 mins later i jsut blindly a moved and he died. i was like nearly 4x his supply count. he was really mad.

now i know what my opponents in zvzs on my main account feel like. nothing makes me feel more ******ed than losing some of the zvzs i do. i just feel like the zergs at my level are so, so much better at it. it's one match up i still havent figured out despite playing zerg for like a year.

Beat: Press quick match, get into a game, and only then realize that I'm kind of tired and probably going to play awful
Beat: Make 37 workers in 13 minute game
Brag: Win against a top 8 silver Terran (why am I not promoted yet )

IME you don't get promoted until you are stomping people in the higher league, so when you 9-1 some gold players then it's likely coming. MMR is wierd for SC.

Do you queue your SCVs? I have a theory that every terran below masters, at least, should be keeping 1 SCV queued (i.e., if you check your CC and there are less than 2 dots in the production queue, add more SCVs). It wastes minerals, but it's not nearly as bad as missing SCVs.

I do, I try to keep 2 dots...and then sometimes I space out so much that two rounds of hearing "SCV ready!" go by without me being like "oh I need to build more SCVs."

37 is wayyyy on the low side though, I'm usually better than that.

Yeah this is def a good idea not just with your CC, but with any unit producing structure. Unless you need to build something RIGHT NOW and don't have the money (in which you can cancel a few units), there's no reason not to. We're not MVP and MKP here; we lose essentially nothing on our "investment" when some money is sitting around waiting to be spent for an extra 20 seconds.

I suspect that queuing units is almost always going to turn out worse than just building extra infrastructure.

EDIT: To a first approximation, the cost of keeping a unit queued is just the cost of the unit. The reason queuing SCVs is good is that SCVs are so cheap compared to CCs. By contrast, if you're queuing a tank, you're floating 150/125, which is basically what it would cost to just build another factory.

There's a balance. Throwing down 11 factories to spend your minerals is probably not a good idea, nor is queuing up 11 tanks.
