Brag: Just got Turtle Beach x12, basically low end high quality head set, mainly for Xbox use, but they work great with PC too. Highly recommended.

until i get my bandwidth issues fixed... instead of streaming i am going to fraps my games live and then pick the good ones to post to youtube (either ones w/ rage, fail or great success) sort of like psystarcraft does.

will anyone watch?

I'd be much more likely to watch ones on youtube than ones you stream

I need stuff to do while at the gym and while GSL is not on I might as well watch your failures (successes?)

lol i quit out to watch a stream for a little because im raging at losing to 2 base marine/tank on khoral

i turn on snute's stream... and he proceeds to spend the next 15 minutes talking about why khoral compound is a **** map, is heavily favored for terran 2 base marine/tank and has garbage design which shouldn't be used in any tournament pool. and he NEVER bitches about maps.

I haven't bitched about the map pool in a really long time. Compared to the map pools Blizzard ran with for the first 1.5 years of the game, they are now great. However, compared to tournament pools, the current map pool leaves a lot to be desired. But it's pretty easily fixable. Here's my look at it from a Z perspective. I'm sure Protoss suffers from many of the same downfalls in PvT.

Entombed valley

Close position ZvT - auto loss vs. even level opponent
Vertical spawn ZvT - Close to evenish, but T favored due to bunker trick in the little nook in front of your natural. Incredibly difficult to defend that.
Long spawn ZvT - even

Close spawn ZvP - should be an auto loss unless you all-in (which they'll easily scout by seeing you have no 3rd)
Long spawn ZvP - 100% totally free 3rd for protoss
Vertical spawn ZvP - close spawn AND 100% totally free 3rd for protoss. 4th is defendable in narrow chokes

Fixes: Remove close spawn... this has been a problem on every 4 player map ever designed. I have no clue why they suddenly thought it wouldn't be a problem anymore. Also remove the nook at the bottom of the natural. As it stands now, it's a freeroll for an instant win by Terran. Worst case scenario Zerg has to pull a **** ton of his drones well out of his natural. Widen the secondary ramp to the 3rd.

Khoral compound
ZvP - horribly imbalanced in favor of Zerg if protoss doesn't want to 2 base all-in. the 3rd is fantastic for forcefields if protoss wants to attack that, though
ZvT - whoever designed the map clearly plays terran. the 3rd is just built for a terran to abuse in every way possible. entire map is spread out making drops fantastic BUT there's no air space on the edges making mutas really bad. the center of the map is wide open but there is LITERALLY NO REASON for anyone to ever go in there. i mean give me a reason for any terran army to ever be in the middle. there is none.
it's basically XNC... just that terran's natural is much, much easier to protect and there is no space to hide a muta.

also there is no way to send an OL to check if T expanded. if you send your OL at T he can kill it 100% of the time if he knows to look for it. another fantastic feature.

Remove the little cliff by the 3rd that juts out. It looks like it was put there aesthetically, but it basically creates an invulnerable position for T. Pull the 3rd close to the main, shrink the center part of the map, widen the side lanes a little, lengthen the path to hit the 3rd from the outside... and you have a pretty good map.

cloud kingdom

ZvP - easy 3rd for protoss, but not quite as free as entombed. still forcefields are great in the choke. however, i think this map is relatively balanced zvp
ZvT - LOL. terran can cover his main, natural and 3rd from one sieged tank position on the high ground in his main. he literally can have his tanks all in once place and cover every single avenue of attack save the weak side of the 3rd which is easily walled off + planetary fortresses. he can easily wall everything off. CC first on this map is safe against even the quickest hatch first baneling build there is. there are cliffs everywhere around the 4th and by the XNC, making it perfect for mech and tanks. the 4th is impossible to take vs siege tanks, but T's 4th can actually be covered by tanks from the high ground. another well designed map for terran players.

Just remove it from the map pool. It's a miserably designed map.

antiga shipyard

zvt - close position - auto loss vs even opponent
zvt - vertical spawn with close 3rd... the terran can actually siege your 3rd from his main and he can also put siege tanks on the little nooks randomly placed around the map which cant be touched. vertical spawn with close main... the terran can actually siege your main from his 3rd and again put all kinds of **** in the nooks. he also gets a relatively easy 3rd thanks to the high ground ability of siege tanks
zvt - long spawn - terran's 3rd is unassailable if he's competent at all. then, if he feels like taking all day, he can slowly take the map until he gets the prize in the middle: the gold base. only holdable if you hold the high ground and have a really long ranged unit to cover it... yeah.
zvp - pretty imbalanced for zerg in every way possible. i have no idea why protoss players play this map. i cant even remember the last time ive lost to a protoss player on this map. gold base bane busts and gold base roach busts rae ridiculous and the zerg can safely take the gold and get a free 3rd that is really hard to pressure. protoss, otoh, is going to have a hellofa time vs mutas.

Do what every single tournament has done. They aren't just doing it for fun. Remove the gold bases and force long spawn only.

metalopolis - arent we all tired of this map?

shakuras - " but is obviously favored by protoss and terrans

TDA - arent we all tired of this map?

Put in any of the wonderful GSL maps that haven't made it to ladder yet over the above 3. The above 3 aren't imbalanced save Shakuras (and Metal if there were no gold bases), but can we move on?

shattered temple - obviously favors both T and P because of rocks covering the 3rd and T gets the gold base in a very favorable position. if the 3rd wasn't blocked by rocks this map would be much different.

Get rid of it

day break - will come in with the 8 mineral patch 2 gas 4th. i wonder if anyone at blizzard asked themselves: why do tournaments not allow this? why did they have the gimped 4th? this, obviously, favors terran.

Leave it the way the map designers first created it. I don't understand what the reasoning to changing the 3rd could be.

metropolis - good map, but basically an improved metal, which should be removed if this is added. this is sort of like having khoral and XNC in the map pool at the same time, except XNC is probably better than khoral.

ohana - we'll see. i think it'll be good, but ive played very few terrans on it.

it's just that there are so many well designed maps out there for tournaments. every blizzard map has to be "fixed" by the tournaments (which sort of need to use some ladder maps for the viewer's sake and for practice of the people i n the tournaments) before it can be used in competitive play. doesnt that send a wake-up call to blizzard at any point? i mean they fixed it once before. why dont they keep fixing it now? and why dont they fire everyone who designs their maps and hire outside people?

I checked battle.net earler and it said down for maintenance, and maybe an hour later it said up and running... so who knows.

But yeah, 5pm for me then.
