SC2 makes me rage more than any other game. My rage is probably pretty tame compared to some, but I almost never get angry while playing any other video game.

Is it really more popular on a worldwide basis? Wonder what will happen with the LoL communities when DOTA2 comes out since they are so shared.

This is because you have to rely on other people. Any team game will always be more tilting than a single player game because you have someone to blame. The vast majority of SC2 rage tends to be about things being imba, rarely people being mad because they played bad. LoL and similar games exacerbate it by giving people a whole host of extra things to rage at.

It's more popular because it's a f2p game and hence has way more people who have a casual interest in it. I would be pretty confident in saying that there are far more hardcore/dedicated fans of SC2 as an e-sport than of LoL, although that's obviously pretty much impossible to prove either way.

Well, the semifinals at Kiev just had like 117k viewers on the main stream, and probably more tomorrow since it's the dream finals. Also, Riot does a much better job pushing LoL as an eSport than Blizzard does for SC2.

And yeah, it's the team aspect that's super tilting about LoL. More generally, it's not being in complete control of winning and losing. Nothing is more frustrating in that game than doing well, then losing the game because the rest of your team has the collective intelligence of a chipmunk.

Homestory Cup got up to 60k viewers for the quarter-finals I believe, not sure about semis and final. Considering the difference in the size of the player pool and the fact that Homestory wasn't a particularly huge tournament that's pretty high.

I can't imagine having thousands of people attending a live event for a single LoL bo5/bo7 like was always the case for the finals of the Korean star leagues for bw though.

It actually annoys me at how popular LoL is since in terms of being a good competitive game it's godawful relative to HoN and DotA.

LoL streamers can apparently pull more viewers than even popular SC2 pros.

My bro plays LoL. Apparantly they pump the streams big time in the LoL client so end up getting absurd numbers of views because even if a small % of people who are playing click on it thats still potentially hundreds of thousands of people. I think that may account for part of the difference, not sure I know nothing about pople streaming.

I only rage at my own **** ups. This is probably why I rage at chess more than any other game. I dont think ive ever gotten mad in a game where my teamate was the reason I lost.

Nothing will happen. lol is its own product that will continue to be massively popular. I have a dota 2 key and hardly play it. Casual players(see: me) find comfort in the familiar and dota has some ui things that bother me. At worst I will play both.

Why does it matter as long as people are watching?

How so? I don't play HoN but I've heard it's pretty badly balanced.

I was admittedly surprised by this myself. It's not even close.

It doesn't as far as Riot are concerned. The fanaticism there was/is for bw in Korea is going to be hard to match by any other e-sport but I don't know what the total viewing figures for those things were.

I haven't played LoL in a long time but from what I gather there are only a handful (say maybe 20-25) characters who are playable at the highest level. In HoN there is a much wider range of heroes who are playable, probably more like 30-40, with at most 1 or 2 perma-banned heroes.

Additionally the range of gameplay in HoN is much greater. There are more viable strategies and especially laning compositions and the structure and balance of the game allows for a more action packed game.

At lower levels I can see LoL being a more interesting and much easier game to get into (although personally I absolutely hate the type of f2p model they now both use) but for the competitive scene HoN is a much more interesting game to watch imo.

Edit: Having looked up some stats for HoN there were 60(!) different heroes banned or picked at least once during Dreamhack Winter. 33 of them were banned or picked in at least 10% of games, with only 1 above 90%.

This is a huge factor in it. Imagine the stream numbers if Blizzard actually promoted them even slightly.

LoL is way more appealing to casual gamers because it's a lot more effortless. As for the streams, there's a few reasons why I think they are more popular.

1) lol streamers talk a lot more so they are more entertaining (like destiny vs others for sc2)
2) there are much fewer pro lol streams, so each streamer gets more viewers
3) lol client will actively advertise for big tournament streams

I agree there is a small subset of playable champions at the highest level, I don't know about those numbers though. I wouldn't guess.

Preference, doesn't make it more or less competitive. It's ok to like a style or type of gameplay more, that doesn't make lol less competitive.

Yeah I guess I didn't really mean more competitive, I meant more entertaining to watch and hence better as an e-sport.
