Is there any way around the awfulness of mirror matchups from an RTS game design perspective?

Just got the game today. Never even played the original. Going to try to get through single palyer then start up on multi :E

Single player is great!

Tons of units/upgrades that aren't available in multi-player, also the single player plays in normal speed, where as online, it's faster speed.

It's so god awful to play in normal.

Good thing there is an option to put it on Fastest =)

Well, I kinda like ZvZ now. However, that is purely a function of the fact I somehow learned how to micro ling/bane, so now I don't just die to it right away. Still hate it because now I can't win unless they ling/bane me

But yeah, I don't think you can ever really avoid the kind of stuff we see in mirror matchups. When both players have exactly the same units available, I think it's naturally going to boil down into one strategy. Then it comes down to who executes better. TvT only feels better right now because there actually seems to be multiple strategies that are a)viable, and b)different. However, I don't think this can last. IDK if Artosis is right and that one strategy will be mech, but I don't think we'll be seeing quite the variety we see right now for very much longer.

I think so. I might be biased because I play T but even before I played it was the only mirror match up that I enjoyed watching.

As far as watching: TvT > PvP ~ ZvZ.

And I might only enjoy watching PvP for the "I play protoss and want to see what the **** these good players do in this awful matchup so maybe I can learn something" factor.

I was just clarifying because someone who is new to the game might not know that you could change it =S.

Yes you can. I haven't been on SC2 in a long time but under "Gameplay" in options there should be a drop down menu for "Game Speed" when you're in a campaign mission.

I thought game speed was locked for campaign, but I just tested and it wasn't.
