haha. i remember that guy. i beat him 2x in a row and he raged out at me. after game BM and all. it was amusing. i don't think he's a higher master, unless he got a ton better in the last month or so

i beat it as terran vs protoss. wallin + bunker into 2 port cloak banshee. mass repair is so imba

Thanks for the replies. I'm struggling to beat the 'very hard' mode after having played for about two weeks.

I do well in the early game (almost always winning the first micro encounter) but they seem to be able to overtake me unit wise towards the middle game. Probably just my macro sucks cuz I should be losing the supply lead after winning the first battle.

Unless 'very hard' mode cheats extra minerals too...

After my last game I had to do some googling to see if the 'very hard' setting gets extra minerals and it appears it does.

The score screen showed the computer had 51k resources to my 32k. And I wasn't going super slow or anything even close to it. I had 4 rax, 2 fact, and 1 starport. I also had my natural up and running with a bunch of mules.

There's just no way the computer could have legit got that many more resources than me. (at least I don't think, I'm still a noob but I've watched enough to know that i was at worst only a little bit behind a "standard" pace of building up to that point)

Guess it's time for me to burn through the rest of my practice matches before heading on to the real thing.

I thought only the hardest setting got extra mins... I dunno.

Either way, trust me, you'll get more out of playing against real people.

It's possible this is the case, but google turned up several sources that claim both very hard and insane get extra. Have no idea how credible those sources are though!

But yeah either way I'm just going to start playing real matches. Like you say I think playing real peeps is going to help me improve the quickest. I don't care if I start off 0-50 or something crazy. I just played a practice match and the settings make the game slower which is maddening. My scv's took F.O.R.E.V.E.R. to go from the mineral pile to my CC and back. f that.

tru dat, practice is lame. Skip to placement and just jump right in. Losing isn't the end of the world. gl

i went 0-5 in placement and 0-8 before i had my first win when i started, dont sweat it.

I still remember my first game on the day of release. PvP on Metal. I built a pylon in range of the guy's Nexus and he didn't attack it. Then I 4 gated and warped into his base.

but depending on the type of person you are this can be easier or harder. Me, for instance, I have a pretty high competitive spirit. any sport I ever played in any circumstance I played to win and if I knew ahead of time I was gonna play sth be it HOMM or poker or volleyball I'd read up on it tons before doing it to ensure I had an edge. In SC2 this has translated into me not playing when i'm stoned/drunk (which I am in a large part of my spare time) b/c I know I can't play more than my ~B game and I hate losing.

It was TvP, but I can't remember the map. Definitely one I hadn't seen before.

Sent an scv to scout and ended up going to the wrong two corners first. Decided to try to get some troops together and move out on him, which was weird because in all my games vs the computer I seemed to just macro it up until they came after me.

Went 3 rax, 2 with a reactor and one with a tech lab. Got a bunch of marines and marauders while building 2 factories. Ended up moving out with 3 or 4 siege tanks (w/siege upgrade), ~18 marines and ~9 marauders. Others were coming out and a few caught up before he gg'd.

When he first noticed I had attacked he typed, "siege rushing me?"

I didn't know what to say lol so I just didn't say anything. Wasn't sure if that's a known noob move or is considered cheese?

He only had a few stalkers and some void rays I think. Couple zealots towards the very end. But it was never close I obviously caught him totally off guard. 13 in game minutes was the game time.

Anyway, sorry for writing up a mini review of one placement match against a scrub. I was pretty nervous going into it and no matter how bad he was it still felt good to crush like that!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaand I get bitchslapped my second match. fought off his first rush (TvT) but the second wave he easily took me down.

Playing random 2v2s because I'm bored, ally leaves at start of the game. I'm zerg, and have no idea how to macro or do anything. 25 minutes later, my muta/ling wins the game.

Can't you do an extremely quick 6pool if your ally leaves in 2v2, or did they change/fix that?

Lol, made it to the 5th round of TL Open, then lost to the guy who supposedly stream cheated on SlayerSDragon. Doubt he did to me though, cause I told him I don't stream and my stream channel name isn't the same that's listed on TL. Probably could have beaten him tbh if I didn't **** up an attack. He didn't really seem that strong of a player tbh.

Pretty sure you can, just leave the other guy's **** mining. Unless you double 6 pool!

I'd use practice v. AI just to figure out a basic build order, and then I'd take the plunge.

my noob friend with a shaky internet diconnected last 2 games we played at the loading screen, he was terran i was zerg.

I won both games with 3 hatch speedlings and 6 rax marines .

He didn't leave until I had 10 drones or so.

it would be awesome if you could kick your teammate out of the game if he sucks so you can just control both forces
