SC is awesome to watch even if you don't play, but when you actually have the experience of playing yourself, you appreciate the stuff that the top pros pull off even more.

Anyway, you are very welcome in this subforum!

The video is 57 minutes long but they say at the end the match was 80 minutes long.

omfg the learning curve there must be on this game... Not sure if I'll take the plunge but its awesome to watch and I don't even know wtf is going on yet.
On faster setting (pretty much every game is played in faster setting) ingame minutes are faster than normal minutes, I think it's so the length is comparable to SC BW matches, not sure that's the reason though.

if you have some moneys go to gomtv.net great tournament coverage of their tournaments for pretty cheap prices.

Laddering is ******ed. The find match button should be replaced with the "cheese and all-in defense training" button

urgh ffs if i see a drop coming and move stalkers to cut it off, at least put them on patrol so they don't just watch them fly over into my natural and kill a ton of probes. just 1a'ed and won 10 seconds later but that's so fn dumb

Ah, that makes sense because I was like wtf why would they cut out ~22 minutes of the match!?

Will check that site out, thanks for the link!

Question: If I buy the game, can I play all three different groups (or whatever thy're called )?

Or do I have to just pick one and hope I like it?

Can I download the game directly from the Starcraft II website?

I noticed they have a free trial version which seems to mainly include single player campaign stuff. Would you guys recommend I start with that?

Try this first. You have access to some stuff but not all. You can watch replays, play some customs, get a feel for stuff.

Ah, nm, I should have read the whole post first haha. You could try it. It won't hurt.

Yes (they're called races).

No.

Yes.

It may help you learn how to play the game, but it's mostly gonna depend your personal preference of the type of games you like (i.e. I'm more of a multiplayer fiend, so I've barely touched single player).

I don't know if it's still the case, but is there a practice league where you can learn to familiarize yourself with the game before laddering? I mean...it would be better for new players to at least get a chance to get classed higher imo. GL and you will see it's a addicting game.

lol? pretty short fun game. this guy is 450 masters this season too which is pretty decently ranked.

i like how he sees me throw the pool down and then rages about a 7 pool

(spoiler: it wasn't a 7 pool)

Custom games exist. Variety of skill but better than nothing. No pressure though.

It's also very easy to find a pickup game partner through team liquid.

All in all ladder is still the best option IMO, who gives a **** abt your losses/win rate anyway you're gonna be in silver or plat or whatever and nobody is gonna give a ****.

For quicker progression find a coach or a dedicated partner for each race while you're climbing the ladder IMO.

there are some really, really weird threads on TL

such as:

i mean what is going through someone's head when they decide to make that very cool thread?

I wish during comps they were required to fight until one side is completely destroyed. I know these players can tell when they don't have a chance, but on the other hand, I have a hard time believing that out of all the thousands (mirrions?) of quits not a single one would have ever came back.

Thoughts?

True to an extent. Some pros tend to give it all they've got until their last marine falls like Boxer, and yes once in a blue moon he will win a game because of it.

On the other hand you have players who will gg sometimes even in winning situations, for example idra ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0nDsBOzeA4 ) watch that video, lol.

Some people tend to not want to fight an almost unwinnable situation, especially in tournaments because it is really tiring, and they just want to focus on the next game. and they don't see the potential risk of playing the next game worse because of the previous lengthy game for the "1 in a million" win

I think forcing for every building to be destroyed to win a game wouldn't work, even on ladder it could be extremely annoying
