There's definitely a difference in the 700 pt diamond players I play and the 1k+ pt diamond players I play IMO. The 700 pt guys all macro so bad past early game sometimes and make lots of little mistakes.

IMO the skill gaps in diamond league are huge. It almost feels like the other 4 leagues are just preliminary leagues while diamond is the real league. Anyone who's got all the real basics can get into diamond, but advancing the ladder within diamond is so much harder than getting into diamond.

It seems to me they usually only move you up when they have enough people to create a new division. Just be patient, keep playing, and you'll get there!

If u compere it to iccup (community bw ladder) low diamond is likely D there (start) below diamond is D- and 900-1000 rating atm is D+. They have this grades from D- to A+ i think.

They really should put sth like diamond 1- diamond 4 and pro league. Atm u really cant tell how good u are due to inflation.

Use SC2 ranks to find out what percentile you are in.

Same goes for statistics, i mean how hard it is to do race vs race statistics and map statistics. Now u need outside source(sc2gears) and dont forget it to run before u play :x

Just like poker, you need PT or HEM. It's a small cost to get so much data. Then again I wouldn't be surprised if SC2 ranks starts getting that stuff, they have made huge improvements since launch.

I just wish there was one really big ladder or at least a lot more stratification outside of leagues.

I cringe when I see the "expanding search" go on for too long. It means I'm going to be up against some guy with 50 games played, and while technically a diamond player, he's going to get face-rolled.

Beat: Been playing on a comp with crappy graphics card and no room to upgrade it so generally game becomes unplayable micro-wise after 80ish supply.

Brag: New machine finally arrived! Was able to get to 1200 diamond even though I can't micro in large battles. Siege 1-2 secs late, can't multiple drop, storm dodge, move rines to react to mutas, etc

Variance: Hopefully my ranking, cause I swear 70% of games I lose I feel it's because I can't micro, and I can't turtle expand or am forced to attack cause I know once army sizes gets large I can't control anything and will lose. Maybe I'll have easier time with mutablingling

This is a good thing.

If you lose, you lose very few points.

If you win, you get a lot of points.

I originally got placed in silver. Made it up to diamond, and now I'm back down to gold. I don't think these leagues really mean too much aside from the top diamond players.

might be a sample size thing. tough for any rating system to accurately evaluate how good you are until you get enough games under your belt. one hot/cold streak early could really skew your early rankings.

but yeah, other than the very top diamond players, everyone else kinda sucks.

what's the criteria for a top diamond now? with point inflation the bar is higher and higher. 1600-1800+?

lol played some real late night SC2 last night and i got matched up against a bunch of plat/real low diamond players. i was super tired and not really playing to my best, but i got really complacent because well... i cant remember the last time i was in-base zealot proxied or marine proxied or cannon rushed in a 1k diamond game, so ive just stopped being alert for it (plus it was 5 AM and i was half asleep0... but that's what like every plat/low D player i played did, and i lost a few what shoulda been cake games. well, except for the guy who tried to land a CC in my base and build a planetary fortress. he didnt win.

Brag: over 1k points, #1 in league
Beat: in bronze

man cheese tilts me so hard. i always freak out when i see it and do the wrong thing. it's like the easiest way to beat me, and i play pretty bad so there's a lot of easy ways to beat me.

I pray for a cheese every game. So satisfying to stop the cheese and then draw out the game really long ending in an eventual crushing victory. On 1v1 maps like Steppes/Xel Naga have your scouting worker check every inch of your base + natural for proxy before heading out to his base. On maps other than Steppes/Xel Naga you have to always be watching for a worker scouting earlier than normal (if they dart in and out of your base real fast without looking around that means they are most likely doing some sort of proxy cannon/rax/gate etc. For example,



For example in this replay the SCV came into my base way way too early for a normal terran build and left immediately so I knew something was up. Checked the natural and he was popping up a rax behind my naturals mineral line. If you watch the replay you'll notice that I somehow missed his base when scouting which led me to think he had lifted off to an island. I took time to build the wrong units which allowed him back in the game but I still ended up crushing him.

How does that make someone humble? People are just afraid to ladder for various reasons. New race, don't want to ruin their record, etc. So they get new accounts.

Unless they said it's their first game, but who cares.
