If you had a point when you first started where you weren't really ever winning then it could take quite a few games. If your MMR was on a downswing, then you basically have to win enough to turn that back to neutral and then into an upswing. And then from an upswing you have to push it far enough upwards to get into playing Silvers and low Golds.

I think AKSpartan played somewhere around 60-70 games before he was promoted to Silver, even when his record was like 50-10. You just have to keep playing and eventually you'll get there.

Oh ok. I was something like 3-10 or 3-12 before the win streak, so makes sense

Ironically, if you have a *really* good winrate, it will take you a lot more games to get promoted.

The system is trying to match you against people it thinks you have about a 50% shot against. If you're actually winning 80% despite the fact that it's trying to give even matches, then the confidence level in your current rating is really low, and it won't do any promotions when the confidence level is low. (which is actually pretty ******ed past a certain point, but that's how it works)

This game sucks. I'm so bad.

0-3 tonight.

Game 1: Failed 4gate, PvP.

Game 2: PvT, Idiot gets 3 expansions, I have 1-1, he doesn't have any upgrades. I hold off his bunker rush, then he has a few units sitting around I pick some of them off. I attack into his Planetary, eats my army. He counters. I say a few things, he says a few things, I quit.

Game 3: PvT again, as soon as the game starts I get this big wall of text on my screen from idiot from previous game telling me to flank and micro and whatever, I didn't even really read it. Then he's going on and on and I'm just telling him to stfu and go do his homework. Then when my cyber core comes up I realize I didn't put probes on my gas so I have no warpgate and no stalker coming. Then I get cloaked banshee rushed and harassed out the wahzoo. Then I go to attack him because I pretty much can't win and he's at my base.

Seriously, the game isn't even fun anymore. I'm not going to sit there and analyze my game and put in hours to getting better. I have never felt confident in any game I've ever played because from Day 1 of my placement matches I got placed into Gold. I never felt like I had the opportunity to work my way up. I always feel outmatched going into every game. Yeah, I'll learn as I go, but FFS.

I don't know how you guys do it. And ****, I went from #24 to #30 so my freakin' avatar is now irrelevant. I don't know what to use now. Will be deleting it until I deserve the honor of a Starcraft 2 avatar.
I need some sleep. I suck at this game and I'm cranky.

/dingorant

EDIT: Found a better avatar other than that stupid starcraft garbage.

You'll do yourself a huge favor if you stop caring about results and just play the game. Just have fun. Cannon rush every few games. Proxy gate, who cares?

When a game is over, just try to learn something, even if it's just one little thing, and then move on to the next one. Wins/losses really don't mean much in a system like this.

I mean I'm just as competitive, I kinda know how you feel, but you just have to stop caring. I think the easiest way to do this is just play a ton of games.

If I were you, I'd get some help from some of the 2+2 guys and just learn a really tight, solid 4 gate. Once you have that down, use that while your mechanics improve.

Or get 1 build you do every game, stick with it (a macro build, obviously) and just practice it over and over til you can do the build in your sleep. Then worry about other stuff.

OH and never attack a planetary fortress unless you are 150% sure you can kill it nearly instantly OR you are doing it with things in the air and he has nothing that shoots up.

Yeah I need to play more, but I hate losing and I always go into a game fearing the worst.

Normally I just do a 3gate/robo, but then I've realized that PvP is more or less going to always be a 4gate in some form. I've had a lot of success with my 3gate/robo. Tonight's PvP was the first time I tried 4gating properly so I guess I should expect to lose.

I didn't mind losing the first game because I know where I went wrong. The second game was what irritated me because I had him up until I thought I could just beat him in front of his planetary. It was on Scrap so I should have just broke down the middle rocks and flanked him. That was my mistake and although I realize what I did wrong and should remember to do it differently next time, it still sucks losing that game.

Then the 3rd game was just pathetic because he was distracting me.

I think, although I don't see the losses anymore on my record, that I've now put the emphasis on my rank trying to get into the Top 8. Next thing is that the rank has to go. haha jk I wasn't playing at 100% tonight.

So I guess I learned not to attack into a planetary.

A lot of days I have intentions of trying to play an extended session, but then I talk myself out of it, or I just force myself to not click on the SC2 file. I didn't lose that many points tonight, maybe like 26. One win with my bonus pool and I'll probably get all of that back.

But yeah, I have to stop caring about the results and focus on improving and playing optimally. I get too competitive with myself and that negatively detracts from the game and causes me to rage on other people when really I should just not say anything at all and quit the game and move on.

I'm sure I'll continue playing. It's just so frustrating to feel like I've already lost before the game even started. I've never liked being in Gold, eventhough I'm running about 50% right now.

I really like blind 3 gate robo or 1gate robo, followed by 2 more gates.
I find it easier to expand and have a decent size army. If I scout cheese, I can chrono out zealots as opposed to warp gate, etc.

I seem to just standardly do it now, because I have a slow 4 gate. =/

Fx, just gotta play more. Find your leaks and fix them. It's mainly just practice and muscle memory. I'm starting to get better at my opener and macroing now. I'm constantly keeping my minerals/gas, even into late game. Soon as I can macro mindlessly aaaannnddd learn to micro my army, I'll be good. Just gotta be calm and have fun

Like Karak said, never attack into a PF unless you're fairly positive that you can 1 or 2 shot it (I'd guess for typical P army maybe 150 supply). Also, you care way too much about your league dude, which seems weird b/c gold is probably at least where you belong. You know you're too good for bronze (players who just bought the game) & silver (players who might know what some or most of the units do), so I'm not sure why you "never liked being in gold."

Also, there's always customs vs 2p2ers.

Italian,

That's why you learn a tight 4gate. Whenever you start tilting your losing your game, you do it every game to keep playing and burn off tilt. It's like Destiny and 7 pooling.

Thats why team games are so awesome. Just a not-care situation each time. 1v1 for whatever reason has inherent stress. I get it to, but I think its because I'm ultra competitive.

i honestly doubt i could spawn close position on slag, metal and shattered temple more often. im running stupidly bad at this. it's like im running bad at cards. i just assume close position every time on those maps. im legit surprised if i scout and it isnt close

Yeah I found that yesterday. Started reading it, but I was losing focus so I just skimmed through it slowly.

I don't like being in Gold because I want to go on a streak where I can just win with no problem. Like, in Call of Duty when I play, I do pretty well, and when in a group, we never lose. In SC2 it's like a bastard child who says you'll only ever be 50% as good as you want to be.

I focus too much on the results. I would absolutely love to just play and not care about the outcome. I expect to win every game and I guess my expectations are what makes me frustrated. I'm trying to play more, but I have a hard time sitting down to play. Ironically, I sit here all day doing nothing, but yet I can't justify sitting here to play SC2.

I'm going to try and put emphasis on playing right rather than playing to win and I'm going to think of ladder as practice and that the outcome doesn't matter. It's just all in my head. Rank and points don't matter. I know there are people out there who are worse than me and I know people out there who are just as good as me with a lot more losses, and I know there are people out there who are better than me who lose just as much as I will. I mean, any time I look at some of these top Master's players they have 50% records too so there is no reason why I can't just accept that for myself as well. I can't let my expectations get the best of me.

Anyways, that's just me thinking out loud. I'll probably play some more later today and when I do I'm going to try and just focus on having fun and learning and watch my replays to see where I went wrong without feeling frustrated or offended at the loss. I'll take responsibility for the loss and not let my ego get the best of me. haha

And thats why the skype chat is so awesome. You can tilt in the middle of a game, have people laugh at you for being bad, then you just go into the next game and do the same thing.

Or you can be like animal and rage and throw your keyboard across the room or Tweed who just whines like a little baby seal in oil.
