This. Lag across an ocean can truly be a bitch.

You may be willing to deal with that lag, but your decision to deal with it also affects every single person you play as well, and lag can be extremely frustrating, so I think it's a good thing they have the region restrictions.

Well they'd obviously need a minimum latency standard. Though I'm not sure how well a worldwide ladder would work if not all players in a league could play one another.

I was under the impression that playing on another server wouldn't cause other people to lag, just you.

When you play against someone over bnet, you are directly connected to them. That's why you can sometimes lose connection to the server and time out, but can still talk to the other person in game.

Karaking BM, Part 3:

I honestly think I'm missing a lot of spots in these BM episodes, but it's hard trying to type in game, make sure I don't do anything dumb and get it done quick enough before the other person leaves.

I try not to BM innocent parties, only people who provoke me somehow... like this guy: he sat on 2 base for 25 minutes, lost his 3rd 3 times (tried to take the gold twice, then eventually tried to take his natural third) while trying to expand, was mined out at his main and getting close to mined out at his nat, barely had any upgrades and was down in supply by like 70 or so I think. Possibly more. He had not done any damage to me the entire game. Does that mean he'll leave the game? Nahhhh.

Nope, the whole game lags. The game does as much as it can to keep the game going smoothly without pausing to the "waiting for players" screen, but the thing that you'll notice most under laggy conditions is that your units become very unresponsive.

A third or a half a second doesn't sound like that long, but when there's that much of a delay between issuing an order and the order actually happening, it can get extremely frustrating extremely quickly. And that delay happens for everybody in the game. It has to, due to the nature of the game's simulation, where every player is running the complete game independently, only sending high-level commands over the network.

I didn't realize BM was so highly regarded in this forum. I have performed my fair share of yamato research in an opponent's mineral line while marauders dance and cheer about. I will try to make some better BM slideshows than this amateur Karak in the near future.

If both players lag equally, then why is it always a huge issue in international online tournaments which server the games will be played on? TSL3 for example, the higher player gets "home server advantage".

Have you never played with someone else who was lagging? It's the most frustrating thing in the world. It's so obnoxious to play through, especially when it's not even my fault. Sometimes they don't even time out, the game just stutters.

Pure psychological advantage IMO, combined with the fact that most people don't actually understand what's going on under the hood and how the game tries to compensate for lag, which would lead them to believe that there is a real advantage even though there's not.

Assuming, of course, that SC2 uses a traditional RTS networking and simulation model rather than a very bandwidth-intensive one. Everything I've heard or seen would lead me to believe that they're using a traditional model though, with the fact that the simulation runs at a fixed rate, exactly 16 times per second, and that desync bugs were common in the beta, being the two primary bits of evidence.

I could spend time explaining why the response delay has to be the same for both players, and how the game tries to compensate, but chances are pretty good that would just be me completely nerding out, with nobody else actually giving a ****.

It's funny, cause like when I play poker and run like 20 buyins below ev in a 2k (lolplo) hands session, I shrug and think nothing of it. But when I play starcraft 2 and lose to something stupid, I get so fhking angry that I want to break something.

Can I for once get paired with a team that isn't a bunch of ****ing ******s? I mean ****...

That's why my 2v2 random and 4v4 random record is baaaaddddd..

I normally solo 4v4 random, and ugh, never pretty.

My 3v3 random record has been terrible for a long time, mostly due to it being my main place for practice thus far and me running exceptionally bad at matchmaking. I've finally brought it to within a few games of .500 and am playing platinum players. Still my teammates overextend themselves with stupid 7-8 minute pushes that should've never happened, don't know when to expand, can't deal with basic cheese, and don't understand that after my expansion is up and my double robos are producing I will roflstomp the opposition almost single-handedly so STFU.

Still, they're much better than the bronze league 3v3ers who'll get attacked at 7 minutes, have NO army AT ALL to defend with, and will ragequit before their allies even arrive at their base to help.

We can do 3v3 randoms with each other if you want. :P

Day9's daily last night was very newbie, but he had some good insight on playing and dealing with losses being a new player -- basically trying to avoid the discouragement of playing and losing.

I think the best part of it was within the first 20-30 minutes, but it's worth a watch if you're looking for a little bit of inspiration.

Silver my only 2 losses were in placements where I got d/c'ed during load.

Guys I'm always down to play 2's or 3's(though I'm not crazy about 3's I'm fine with it...but really **** 4's...**** them hard).

My only requirement is that you be on skype with me so I can be loud and whine to you as we lose.

Omg nice game in 2on2 with a friend we went for fast muta and I pooled him gas they went for cheese and busted my base with masszealots and rines, ally did some banes and I controlled the mutas and harassed the **** out of them(Had no base so mutas was the only thing I did ) and ally macroed like a Boss

coming off a huge heater at the old 25nl, looking to ride it into some badass 3v3 ladder sessioning. maybe i'll be able to execute some high level BM...

I used to think playing drunk was fun and probably grinded the majority of my 1k+ games drunk, but now it's just depressing to play bad so i don't...
