diamond z, dominate z and p with no idea of a mid-late game strategy to beat t with regularity (i'm still on heart of the swarm, haven't dl'd legacy yet)

What do you typically lose to? Mech is hard to beat in HotS but I didn't find bio that difficult.

Hellbat mines and bio combo destroys me every time

Closest I can come to winning against it is some combo of banes hydra infestor

- Make lots of banelings since they're good against every type of unit you just described
- Depending how hellbat-heavy they are, roaches would prob be better than hydras
- Before the swarm host nerf I used to find that building like 5 of them was a decent counter to Terrans that would try to basically siege you with mines, since the locusts either force them to trade their bio to kill free units or trigger the mines and let you swoop in with lings/banes - don't recall doing a lot of that after the nerf but it might still be worth trying
- Consider swinging mutas around to cut off reinforcements/distract their army as they start sieging
- Always make sure you have OL speed + plenty of overseers
- If mines are spread out then trigger them; if they're all alone, send in a ling and try to drag the mine shot towards their army one it goes off, if they're mixed in with small isolated groups of bio then send like 8 lings/2 banes toward a group and you'll never risk a huge devastating mine shot killing all your banes or anything

Variation: try 13 drone instead of 13 lings and that third roach will pop a little faster (if you're a pro this is probably a huge mistake but for me I'm like "well these lings do **** all at the wall anyway...")

IEM Katowice ($250k prize pool) is happening this week - qualifiers were today with more tomorrow, with group stages on Thursday/Friday, playoff bracket Saturday, championship Sunday. Unlike last year there are Koreans there, so it might actually be a good tournament!

Hero, Zest, Alive, Byun, Innovation, TY, Dark, Solar, and True won spots via the Korean qualifiers, Stats qualified today through an open qualifier (without losing a game, lol Euros) and several other Koreans (Bunny, Gumiho, Jjakji, Impact, Losira, Ryung, Patience) will be attempting to qualify tomorrow.

MMR down from 4100 to 3900 in the subsequent string of losses since that win. Game too hard.

I've been playing a little ranked and got to ~4200, the build loses sometimes but it's almost always to early SCV scouts and really fast bunkers. If the first sign of the build they see is their reaper getting shot by ravagers halfway across the map, they're basically dead.

Perhaps my most satisfying series of games recently was on my bronze smurf (which I play exclusively unranked on and has an MMR in the plat-diamond range), where I did the soo build to a diamond Terran in one game and won, then matched up against him again the next game and savaged him in a normal macro ling-bane-muta ZvT.

I'm not hip with the modern timings or meta. I mostly won against early cheese or proxy builds and lost the macro games. A common sight was Terran showing up at my base with 2 medivacs full of stimmed marines when I had some queens and essentially nothing else to defend with. Checking the internets today and it says this is a common thing that I need to prepare to hold against. No more rushing to 3 bases and just droning like crazy.

I lost another game to literally 8 Phoenix and force fields. It was pretty hilarious, and the opponent and I both laughed at my complete and utter impotence at dealing with it. Looking back, I'm actually still not sure what I should've done to respond. I was so spread out and had no clue it was coming. He must've killed 25 overlords and a dozen queens before I threw in the towel. I tried countering with my lings and banes, but he was just content to force field himself in while those Phoenix did whatever the hell they wanted on my side of the map. I assume he was building carriers behind the wall.

I wish it had just placed me in Gold so I could at least learn the maps and get back into the swing of things before getting dumpstered on by people who know what they're doing.

Yeah, LotV has expanded the wide world of Protoss bull**** and it can be hard to deal with at times, especially if you can't get good scouting off. I lost a game like this recently, forget if it was phoenix or oracles that they built a ton of. Artosis said in GSL recently that there was a week or two where Korean Protosses would just build a million oracles and then go kill Zerg.

One of the things I struggle most against is this sort of Protoss build:
1. Make a bunch of adepts to drone harass (you can make this cost ineffective for them but it's impossible to stop them from getting several drones if they put the investment into this)
2. Behind this, go into stargate + 3rd base; it's really hard to counterattack because you need hydras to counter the stargate and step 1 means you need to spend time droning up before going into hydras
3. Follow up with whatever endgame you want (sometimes robo + robo bay for colossi or disruptors, sometimes templar archives for archons/storm, sometimes more stargates for skytoss) - if they get to this stage it can be pretty hard to kill them

I find the skytoss variation is the hardest to deal with, because it's impossible to counterattack their third when they invest into cannons and turtling up for the long carrier buildup.

Do you put 3 drones on each gas and only end up with about 8 drones on minerals for the duration of the game?

I play random and only had the matchup come up once so far, almost broke through but barely lost, I think I would have won if my timing was better and practiced it more.
