im telling u guys its all about 3v3 and 4v4

Loaded up SC2 for the first time in a long time in order to play some Archon Mode with one of my kids.

I think in the end, he was mostly just in charge of injects and creep spread. We won all 6 games, but the last two were noticeably harder than the first 4.

There were definitely some, "DAVID, WHERE IS MY BANELING SPEED!? YOU HAD ONE JOB!" moments in the last game. I called it after 6-0 partly due to bed time but also because it's best to stop when it's still fun and your dad isn't cranky about losing very winnable games.

I'm too competitive.

Zerg seems weak in lotv

I haven't followed the discussions that led to these but I noticed that a balance patch is coming on May 3rd:

- Photon cannon damage increased 50% against Zerg air units
- Thor anti-air no longer does splash, now does bonus vs armored instead of bonus vs light - seems like a total redesign? wtf
- Liberator attack changed from 7 damage to 4 damage (+3 vs light)

Other than the last change which seems good since it was dumb for liberators to be so good against every air unit, even corruptors - I don't get it. Seems like mutas are now better against Terran, but worse against Protoss? What's been going on lately that this is the balance change LotV needed?

edit: Thor anti-air damage super buffed in response to splash being taken out too - used to be (6 (+6 vs light))*4, or 24 minus 4x armor bonuses, and now it's a straight 35 (+15 vs armored).

edit 2: and I almost forgot because LOL blizzard trying to make swarm hosts happen, it's not gonna happen. SH cost reduced from 200/100 to 150/75, supply increased from 3 to 4. They will continue to never be seen except due to misclicks.

Liberator change seems fine imo.

But why the Thor change? Isn't splash anti-air the entire reason for that unit's existence? Not that you ever see Thors anymore but I mean...what?




By the way, I'm having fun drunkenly being terrible at LOTV. It's a lot more fun to watch and play than I thought it would be.

Nah, zerg is pretty good now especially against protoss, at least in my experience. I haven't been watching much pro sc2 recently tho.

This new balance patch makes no sense, no one will make thors now, and there is still no reason to make swarm hosts.

I can't remember the last time I saw a Thor in pro play anyways. Maybe it will be good against liberators or something now.

Haven't really been following lately but randomly visited TL and looked at the last few balance updates from DKim, which had these quotes:

Balance test map is now out that increases queen AA range from 7 to 8 and decreases spore root time from 6 to 4, because surely that will allow Zerg to win against liberators!

edit - so apparently current PvZ involves no stargates, a shield battery and a dark archon

Yeah, protoss air is pretty damn weak given how good hydra/lurker is

it's just so strange given anything other than the bisu build or sair/reaver was pretty much cheese in the old days. seems as if every matchup is different, flash/zero saw flash going bio into mech and zero skipping spire almost altogether and teching straight to defilers

maybe time to close this subforum? merge into a megathread in VG?

or does it not matter?
