idk why does tempo get viewers? or tumescentpie? or desrow?

i mean the majority of her viewers are because she's female. whatever. it's a good thing- it means people are watching streams of starcraft instead of Lol or whatever **** they do.

the "people only watch her because she is a girl" people are more correct, but still incorrect, than the "her being female has very little to do with it" people. her being a girl probably has very little to do with her actually getting picked up by root. she's one of the highest streamers (and probably the highest non-personality/big team player) every time i see her.

people watch tempo because he makes stupid songs and beats me in ZvZ. people watch desrow because he was in premier league and because they want to feel better about themselves while watching a fat guy play starcraft. people watch destiny because he's funny (and also in GM).

So having people watch you is enough to get sponsored by a team?

I just literally have no understanding of how money flows through teams in SC2. Guess I'm applying the thought that winning something, tournys, in any other sport is how to get attention/make money.

I mean, yeah, she gets some viewers due to being female, but people act like being a girl and playing Starcraft is a ticket to esports dollaz. No other females get even close to Spyte's viewers; give her some ****ing credit for doing a good job on her stream.

Watching kaitlyn's stream, she's very attuned to the sexist reactions people have to her and frequently calls people out on them. It's made me much more sympathetic to the difficulties women face from haterzzz online.

Example: someone in chat yesterday was comparing her stream with rotterdam's cause someone brought up the caster thing or something. Someone was like "kaitlyn you need to have rotti's confidence" or something and she said "yeah the confidence to hit on me so people can talk about it on reddit". So that's something she has to put up with and if she ever publicly says something indicating she maybe doesn't enjoy being hit on she prob gets showered with hate mail like "wow can't you take a joke" or "wow you're such a bitch" etc etc. but hay being a girl in esports is EZZZZZZ

well since this is 2p2 and not tl; to think she gets anywhere in the game off pure talent seems ridiculous. poker-wise, v selbst, callisto 5, mysters_y, prob the only girl poker players who got somewhere on talent. liv b a distant 4th. yet you have so many people making free money for being a girl.

msspyte might be decent at the game, but there are still hundreds (if not more) that are more skilled, that simply get overlooked because she is a mildly attractive girl that plays well.

its only a matter of time that esports realizes the same thing poker sites did; attractive girls bring more fans, players, spenders, than some random dude.

im not hating at all, its great she picked up a sponsor for the game she enjoys and dedicates tons of time to, but to think she is the best contender or that people watch her based on skill, seems completely foolish.

I spent a lot of posts earlier pointing out that it's not about pure skill, for her or for many male streamers. She's an entertaining streamer and that, along with being high masters, is why her stream is vastly more successful than whatever baseline she gets for "omg grill playing starcraft".

i read all of them, but still, her "zomg female" fanbase put her at the top of "b team" streamers, and largely would impact her being signed. i doubt anyone could argue she is the top pick for a pro team trying to put someone into GM, nor would i doubt most would argue she got that amount of viewers purely on interaction (and music choice)

Spyte gets viewers for completely different reasons than all three of these.

I get what you are trying to say goofy but I think you have gone so far the other way you are just equally as wrong as people who say she ONLY gets viewers because she is female. She doesn't only get viewers because she is female, but her viewer count is multiplied by a large factor.

Baseline for OMG girl playing starcraft is not what you should be comparing her to in this context. It's comparing her to a male equivalent in skill and entertainment factor. She has probably 20x the viewers of that baseline if not 100x. In fact she has over 10x the viewers of genuine pro players and decent GM's. Like Miniraser who is commentating games in top GM EU has <100 viewers right now.

It's possibly related to me being a mod here on 2p2 and having to deal with people that insert vague (or not vague) references to the fact that they coach all over strat forums, or Sl.owH.abit spamming his books, and **** like that, but I find it incredibly annoying. If every player did **** like this to try to pathetically draw people to their stream then there would be so much ****ing noise in the TL calendar or the other places they use to try to spam themselves (reddit?) that the community would suffer as a result.

I think this is right, but I'm not sure that the additional noise is necessarily a bad thing. It at least sets some streams apart from being part of that horrible list of 50+ streams you see on TL every time you click "show XX non-featured"

The featured streams section is fine; it's community-managed, so other people get to decide who's important enough to be there, self-promoting douches don't just add themselves.

The problem there is that you can self promote your stream as ane event. Should be subject to advanced approval from a mod or something since that is very prominent stream advertising space.
