I just won a pretty standard ZvT going roach/hydra. After consistently losing badly to Terrans that open with lots of hellions and use them well to control creep + deny a 3rd, I'm starting to think that the build I did (1/1 roach timing off 2 bases, killed his natural + fair number of workers, he basically had widow mines and hellions and a v small number of bio units) and transitioning from there into a 3rd base + hydras (though I guess you can transition to anything really) is pretty good. Obv the first attack has to do lots of damage but I was super far ahead after that and the rest of the game wasn't even close. It feels dirty but I can't help it when every Terran on ladder opens with the same overly greedy build meant to punish ling-centric compositions early on
It's actually kinda funny, I did the roach build because I thought I was matched up against the same guy I just played who did the hellion thing. Sure enough, guy I'm playing opens with the exact same build. Wasn't until the game ended and I looked at my match history that I realized it wasn't even the same player.
Oh and he cried at the end to nerf zerg imba, as if it isn't his own fault for doing a typical brainless greedy Terran build that can apparently be blind countered.
Also funny: when I play ZvZ on ladder, my standard is 15 pool 15 gas 15 hatch and I never, ever get cheesed. Feeling like taking the safe build wasn't doing me any favors, I tried hatch first in two ZvZs. Opponent's builds: 10 pool speedling expand, 6 pool. lol.
