Starcraft 2 (GAME IS NOW FREE!) - Page 672 - Video Games

I really don't get it. I loved SC2 for the first year and a half and then I just totally lost interest. I've tried to play every once and a while but it just can't keep my attention.

On the plus side, my wrist doesn't hurt anymore.

I'm hitting 1.5 years fairly soon I think, although EU4 is coming out next Tuesday so that isn't really fair.

I don't think it's too complicated- most of us don't have the attention spans required to stick to and follow a game/scene for that long. I mean, a year seems like a pretty long time to dedicate to a single game. I've been playing/watching Starcraft for almost three years now. Considering the only other video games I've ever played have been Super Smash Bros 64 and The Sims, I'm considering it a success (instead of trying to figure out what went wrong) even if I get completely burned out tomorrow.

I basically can't even watch if the top tier players aren't there. Maybe if the prize pool is really large (think WCS Region Finals large), but even then it's more out of curiosity than out of genuine interest.

MVP having a fundraiser for their travel costs to the ATC championship in Germany by playing games with fans and stuff.

They're holding it on Saturday evening American time (on NA server), Sunday afternoon Euro time (on Euro server). You know, in case you weren't planning on being busy watching any of the three WCS regional finals or that DOTA tournament people seem to care about for some reason that are all taking place this weekend.

I used to play a ton of SC2, then I realized I was getting more stressed playing it. Just too old to get stressed instead of relaxing when trying to game.

tried watching a game of the international but not knowing whats going on and the super choppy observing i just cant. theres never smooth scroll while following players and they swap so much its not nice

Yeah it's pretty hard to follow what's going on if you don't understand what each of the heroes do. The thing that makes DOTA 2 so fun to watch is how much it emphasizes team coordination -- more than in any other game (CoD, LoL, etc). The game is so fast paced and requires so much precise timing that it's just amazing to see all 5 players working together flawlessly.

I think the realise people are tiring of SC2 is the sheer effort required. Compare playing one game of SC2 to playing a console game or a MOBA. It's so much more ****ing intense than basically any game. After a year of that its just, people want a break? Its the only decent modern RTS out there though and as that is the best genre for competitive gaming ever I won't give up on it for a while.

I did just start playing DotA2 though. I resisted the MOBAs, or ARTS, or ass******s for long enough I suppose. But I feel dirty.

What about the frustration of MOBAs when you die out of nowhere because you haven't yet memorized all 4 skills of that random hero on the other team you haven't played before?

There's no frustration. When I first started playing, I was always amazed by every new champ that I hadn't seen. It was fun seeing new stuff.

Although, karak was full of rage when he first saw fiddlesticks and karthus. Those were probably 2 of the funniest games that I've ever played.

Hey goofy. I certainly had my share of "WTF? OP as hell!" Moments learning both dota and LoL. The discovery process can be difficult at times, esp in LoL where you only have 10 f2p champs at a time, but I just try to get through it.

I don't think it's any harder to learn what stuff in LoL does than learning about SC2. Sure, you probably die a bunch because you didn't know what a certain champion did, but the same thing happens in SC2.

Starcraft has, like, 45 units in the whole game, and the details about them aren't that complicated. In MOBA games you need to know, like, the 400 abilities of 100 heroes, or else your team is gonna yell at you (another fun aspect) because you're a stupid noob who didn't know that dude could freeze you in place and then use the blink dagger to block your retreat and all this ****.
