Question of the day: are there any rules about how vulnerable a Toss is depending on the order of his buildings ZvP?

Example: last night, as random, I rolled a ZvP and went 14 pool 15 hatch. I drone scouted at ~15 and discovered that he went Pylon -> Gateway in his main, then when he saw I was Zerg, went Nexus -> Pylon -> Forge at his natural. So basically he started with a normal Toss opening until he realized I was Zerg, and went into a super late and super greedy FFE. How badly should I have been able to **** him for doing that?

Results: I built like 6 lings and easily got into his main, killed zealot #1, but harass was ended by zealot #2. But I'm wondering if I really committed and went like 20 lings if I could have just won the game right there...

If the toss places buildings and units well, and you're forced to react to it, you may still be able to do decent damage if you manage lings well. If you prevent something like a low ground cannon or get up to the high ground, lings will always do more damage than their worth. Axslav, i believe, said on stream that a good zerg response to something like the expand build you saw is just to rally lings into his base, as his unit production scales so poorly and, if you prevent cannons or a wall from getting up, you can deny the expo.

An even bolder expand is gate nexus gas core, ignoring the forge and is very risky against aggression.

if they make a gate in their main and see that youre zerg and then expo they'll die most of the time to a speedling all in.

i know some pros like axslav and maybe others can go gateway in the main to expo and usually be safe but the people you face and even alot higher on the ladder just die to that all in.

you can take a 3rd as well but all inning at that point in my experience as RvP when you spawn as zerg is a free win

Some timings from that game, fwiw:

3:05: his nexus goes down
3:15: I scout it (I actually didn't drone scout, whoops, OL saw it)
3:35: forge starts
4:45: cannon starts
5:20: his wall is finally completed

Rate my baneling bust!

In general, should I be hitting sooner with these sorts of attacks? Dunno if ~9:30 is too late. I might be building too many drones for a situation where I'm not planning to go into a late game. I also imagine starting 1/1 isn't that helpful if it won't finish before I intend to end the game and is just taking gas away from the # of banelings I can make.

Since my ZvT is terrible, I'm trying to start small (2 base baneling attack) and go from there, kinda like how Gospy advised me to 4gate for a long time in PvP.

Also, Gospy: my 4gates are now losing a lot to players that get out sentries + immortals early, they just FF me out of their main while the immortals go to town on my stalkers. Advice?

Do it perfect and hope they mess up a bit. Or just get PvP on TD.

I like it.

In seriousness if they are getting an immortal out you are likely a bit slow. I can understand if ff is a problem though.

You could try some blink builds. I think blink is supposed to be pretty good in HotS and it couldn't hurt your micro since you probably don't get to practice a lot of blink first builds in the other match ups.

Some of the fun of this game is making builds up too. Just try to stay on your timings/macro and try some stuff. You don't have to tryhard every game. Just fool around til you find something that works.

I used to do this weird dt rush into charge + like 2 archons that I went like 10-0 with back in season 2. It was awesome because I saw something general on a stream and I just kept tweaking it until I had a build written down that worked. You can maybe try it out, but it's old.

I just started playing Dota 2, and after playing a couple games with a hero, I was just now able to
- go to the "live games" section of the client
- filter games being currently played by games having the hero I was playing
- instantly jump into a game and watch someone who's good playing the hero I was using to see how they play, what items/skills they use, etc

This is SO EASY and fast that it really makes me mad this sort of thing isn't in SC2. I don't really ever watch people stream because it's like a completely separate decision from playing SC2 - like, either I open the client intending to play, or I open a browser to teamliquid.net or twitch.tv or gomtv.net intending to watch a stream. I would spend a lot more time watching other people play SC2 if I loaded up the game and it was like "hey idra's playing right now" and I could be like "oh cool let me hop in that game and see what he's doing" and it was all part of the same experience. And this would seriously appeal to casuals that have no idea things like twitch.tv exist or who don't know who the pro players are, but would still have fun simply watching someone good play the game.

Like, this guy I'm watching play Dota right now is just some rando on Steam, I have no idea who he is and certainly wouldn't watch his stream on twitch.tv, but it's fun to just open up the game and watch.

I could even load up, like, gold league ZvT games to watch Zergs and see how they react to stuff I have trouble with if SC2 had a spectator mode, and I could do it instantly within the game (easy and quick, so why not) instead of spending ten minutes looking for a gold league streamer on twitch.tv (which I would never, ever consider doing).
