anyway, some people still play brood war and i was watching the finals of a foreigner tournament where they played exclusively zvz, but banned spires so it didn't become a muta spamfest. what mirror in sc2 would become infinitely more interesting if you banned a certain unit/building? first thought would be to eliminate roaches in zvz, but banning marines in tvt would certainly shake things up. no idea what you'd do pvp

banning colossi PvP would be fun but I have no idea how it would work out

seems to me like archons and charge zealots would become pretty unstoppable

that's kind of the point, although too many games end already in that matchup before it becomes war of the worlds

You are in a transitional period which I specifically excluded, but this game is obviously not "meaningless" to you and many others (although your response was a typical psychological defense that was to be expected), and especially not any more or less meaningless than lots of other stuff, such as NYG football which is also meaningless, as well as many careers, even law careers. The way you talk about your job right now sounds like every 20-something that just got their first big job. I hope you can keep up the enthusiasm, but the odds are not on your side. It's cool that you want to work so much that you are too tired to do anything else (at first) but if you do this for your entire career you have indeed failed at life.

got the itch to play SC2 again, i'm pretty freakin awful ATM though. I was mid masters towards the end of last year/beginning of this year when I quit playing, totally out of the loop on meta and everything, with absolutely **** mechanics. Losing to diamond players! :0

Considering I too haven't played in months can I get winner?

Some micro I frequently struggle with:

I have my deathball army on hotkey 1. I want to, *quickly*, peel off a part of it to go do something (hit an expo, defend counterattack, whatever) and remove it from my "1" hotkey so that the next time I a-move group 1 my side group doesn't get pulled with them.

What's the best way to accomplish this? Usually I'll box some units and send them wherever, but the difficult part is re-making my "1" group effectively. I can't just double-click my marines and marauders, for example, cause the side group will still be part of that until they get off of my screen. I also don't want to just box the remaining troops cause I don't want, say, medivacs in my 1 group and they'll be hovering over my bio army.

Best thing to do is peel them off by shift clicking a few unit portraits (Marines most likely) in your 1 key then remake your 1 group IMO (Have your 1 group moving one way during this, then move it another way to do the actual separation). If you're going to drop the units, then obviously they don't need to be un hotkeyed.

When are the dingo-gospy-karak matches going down? I would be interested in observing those.

couple of ways.

1
select group 1, right-click the area you want them to go, while holding shift, left-click a few marines and marauders from the green boxes at the bottom of the screen, then ctrl+1 and right click back to where you want the main army.

you can quickly do the box and remake group 1 by selecting the new group you want, then ctrl+shift+click medivacs to remove them from selection (+ tanks or other units you don't want in the group), then ctrl+1

if you don't use your medivacs in your main control group, get in the habit of attack moving them vs move so they heal as they move if you don't do that already.

Yea, just box what you want your new group to be and reassign it to a new control group.

karak should have to go through whatever players under diamond before he gets to play either me or gospy

I usually have my medivacs "attack" a marauder, which causes them to follow my army around and heal when necessary. That works until their target dies, but if I retreat from a fight or something I make sure to pull them back manually too.
