i would say it's an attack based on an optimized build that begins at some crucial time when, say, your first 2 medivacs pop out. like goofy said, it usally has a greater than typical effect by happening when you have a larger than normal gap in tech or army size or something like that. when some caster says, "he missed his timing," etc, it's because the same attack happening 20 seconds later than it should will usually have a drastically different result (e.g. TvP hitting before the first colossus pops out).

at a high level, it's important to know when these things typically happen. at a mid to low level, it's more important to know at what time they should happen as you do them (e.g. +2/blink stalker attack hits at 8 mins or whatever it is).

but, just because you just had 2 medivacs pop out, it doesn't really qualify as the standard definition of a timing attack. it's more that a pro gamer optimized the fastest/best possible time for this to happen, and then it's called a timing attack.

- I take the hidden base figuring he's unlikely to scout it and I need to catch up in economy after his 2rax rush takes out my natural
- once I scout banshees I figure he's pouring resources into tech that will allow me to get to later in the game w/o having a huge army

Also I got to play sc2 on a friends pc which could run the game on ultra settings... it looked way ****ing different than on medium. It was so nice to place a pylon in an area that had 3+ pylons already and not have any lag.

The same reason vikings can't just angle their nose down a bit to shoot ground units. Balance.

sorry i havent had time to play in weeks. work should really settle down in 2 weeks or so and ill have more time, although i may need to go on a business trip out of town for 10 days. not sure yet.

I just got a Dell 30" monitor. Does anyone play on one or should I just play on my 2001fp 20.1" to play? Will it be harder to see everything since it will be so spread out? Going to try it out today, but wondering if anyone has any experience

I play on a 30 inch dell and aside from being bad at SC2 I have no problems with it.

I play on 30" and have for years although it's definitely not 100% optimal (sometimes hard to see the map as quick as others etc) it's still very doable and I am highish master so unless you're trying to optimize just about everything (like top GM level) I don't see why it should bother you too much. I'd say 17-21" is better tho so if you can easily do that why not
