For my practice league games I think all-in builds might be troublesome. The map was on Novice Kulas Ravine, which is like
Kulas Ravine but with rocks blocking the entrance to each base. I imagine that's probably common with novice maps?
But anyway, I built a supply depot and my barracks and was going to pump out marines, but walled into my base I was like...well ****, now what? So I built a reaper to jump off the cliffs past the rocks and go scout; I found his base in the upper right, where he'd already expanded, and his expansion was undefended so I successfully blew some drones away and got out unscathed (successful harassment, whee!).
But yeah, while my plan going into the game was to build a ton of marines as fast as possible, once I discovered how strong the natural defenses of my base were I tossed that plan out and went with...well, nothing in particular. I built some marines and a few siege tanks and parked them behind my wall, and then built a few banshees out of a starport since Day9 did a video about banshee harassment and discovered that HOLY**** BANSHEES ARE AWESOME. So then I built some more starports (and by "some" I mean two) and more banshees. He sent a few attacks at the front of my base w/ zerglings and roaches, and each one was easily turned away by my siege tanks and banshees, and after any of those attacks I probably could have sent my army to his base and done maaaaajor damage (watching the replay it looked like he was pretty all in each time, lol me) but instead I just sent banshees to **** up his expos. In fact, don't think I ever left my base with any ground units besides that initial reaper, lol. He finally got some mutas which took out a couple banshees before I ran away, so I built some vikings in response.
One thing I def need to improve on from watching the replay is detection - what are my options for that, as a Terran? He burrowed his units a lot while attacking (I didn't even notice, I thought I killed them all lol) so once that happened I was SOL. Terran doesn't have anything ez like observers or overlords for that, right?
Also, how do you stay on top of buildings and stuff once you get several different unit producing buildings down? Are you hotkeying all of them and just constantly going 5S 6A 7S 8B or whatever? I hotkeyed my initial command center and was pretty good early on about building a constant stream of workers, but when my expansion went down I didn't hotkey it (had a lot of groups already) and was much slower at building up workers there. I can't imagine how you constantly keep your barracks busy when you have five of them.
The last thing I had trouble with was knowing unit capabilities. Like, my banshees would be heading towards a bunch of units and I didn't know off the top of my head if roaches could attack air units or not, so I'd steer clear (lol me). I guess I'll figure that stuff out as I play more.
