I've been thinking about switching to Zerg, from Protoss, 1v1. I haven't played much lately and I'm thinking I just want to get back in the game, but have fun with it.

If I can suffer through the losses, it'll drop my MMR, probably to Bronze, and then every now and then I can play Protoss and have an easier opponent.

But the real objective is to switch races, drop down, and just play casually for fun.

Any advice? Just do it?

Are there any long-term effects that could hurt me? I figure if I'm Platinum Protoss now, I can always make my way back.

you can just play some custom games while trying to learn the new race. not a bad idea

I'd rather just tank the MMR to get down to my level. I have a hard time playing customs.

I don't really worry too much about my league placement. I'm more about the ranking within the division than the level of my league. I'm backwards, but that's just how I am.

Plus, I'm never going to be a professional so I don't even know why I care that much about MMR or skill or what race I play. haha

I switched from terran to zerg a while ago when I was high ranked gold. I was playing mostly plats and got my MMR knocked down to playing bronze players (was in silver). Then I finally figured it out and started raising my MMR from there.

Now I want to learn protoss so instead of tanking my MMR from high plat I just decided to buy a new account for $30 during black friday and use that.

But mainly I'd start practicing build orders against the AI or in team games until you get a feel for zerg so you can actually figure some stuff out in the games instead of just struggling with basic mechanics.

Zerg is a different animal from toss or terran. Not that it's harder, it's just harder to get the hang of macro mechanics initially. But if you don't care about stats or MMR or w/e then just do it, you'll get it eventually.

I played a custom as Zerg. Ended up ZvZ. I never really stood a chance.

This is going to be a painful drop if I decide to go through with it.

I like playing the ladders as I like to get matched with people at my skill level, but I also like 1v1 a lot more than team games.

This Zerg I played against was a Master's level player so it wasn't even a fair fight.

I might just go through with it and see what happens. I can always switch back to Protoss and have a fun journey back up.

IFX, switch to random. It's what I did when I got bored with P.

I switched from terran to zerg with no prior zerg experience and after since lessons with pwn and a week of practice I was comfortably diamond on ladder. Masters within a month.

Even if you were a seasoned platinum zerg you aren't going to beat a masters zerg. Don't make too much of that game.

Started off playing Zerg 1v1. Got anal raped pretty badly.

Opponent goes roaches so I try to get mutas. They pop out as he is attacking my base. I clean him up and then go attack his base and he starts whining about how I should just leave because it's bm that I "lost" but still trying to kill him.

I told him I'm learning to micro. haha

This is going to be painful, but on the way down I'm not going to look at or practice any build orders. I'm going to try and figure it out on my own.

I'm sure my opponents are thinking I'm the worst platinum player in the world. haha

I feel like I'm playing Protoss back when I was in the beta.

I'm interested to see how long it'll take before I win a game.

Beat: 4v4 random
Variance: Last time I played before this was season 1, when I was top 10 worldwide in random 4v4 - Played 1 placement game w/ a friend because we've been on an all nighter and we're both too ****ed to play anything else.

I have officially won my first 1v1 game as Zerg. It was a ZvP on Xelnaga.

I spawned on top. He tried to put a proxy pylon on the low ground at the 6o'clock position from my base. I had an OL sitting near there so I saw the red dot show up.

Then he put pressure on me with a couple zealots, which I was able to take out 2 with my zerglings.

I forgot about my first OL that I sent to his base and when his stalkers started attacking it I looked and saw he didn't have a wall at his ramp. I then proceed to take my zerglings into his base and rape his mineral line.

Then I mass up roaches and clean house.

Ezgame. My record is now 1-7. 7 losses until my first win, not too bad. The guy was a 71 rank Random Platinum with 0 wins and it looks like he never plays. haha I'll take it.

I'm finding one absolutely HUGE beneficial mechanic is not having to warp in at a pylon. I can be attacking and just hit my hatch hotkey, S > whatever and have stuff building without me looking. Supply blocked? No big deal, 5 > S > V.

Edit: On Xelnaga he scouts the 9'oclock expansion, then my 3rd expansion before finding my base. And he never researched warpgate. He was producing out of 2 gateways the entire game.

observations from some platinum play:

-holy **** everyone 1 bases...it's insane. i've seen some of the most bizarre 1 base **** i think i've ever seen...terran can produce sooooooooooo much **** off 1 base it's unreal. protoss = 4 gate is the standard.

-i'm convinced that the biggest problem for these players is macro. obviously their build orders are ****ing awful, but their macro is what loses them games. both in the sense of not building any workers or having like 5k in the bank and not being able to spend the minerals. maybe it's because they are all used to just 1 basing.

-zerg units are really ****ing awful... other than the infestor.

Yeah, it's interesting. You completely underestimate the amount of crap you can make off 1 base.

I really enjoyed losing to ebay first, with PF and mass turret/tank/viking

some protoss player tried to cannon rush me ( i was randoming it up and was terran) on TDA. i hold it and then drone like crazy...then he built like 5 gws + robo off 1 base and raped me. (didnt have enough barracks as terran with expo up). so tilting lol...

So I guess its not all that bad. The thing is the premium and premium+ don't include GSTL. Which...makes me wonder if I should bother or just go with the monthly or something.

You can get the GSL Light Yearly at $70.

Compared to the $100 option it is missing Mobile Vod/Stream, Dual Stream (you only get to watch the main stream) and Korean Vods. Seems like a good deal to me.

I think GSTL is going to be a lot bigger next year (probably similar to Proleague), and that's why it's going to have it's own ticket. In fact, given the current prices of monthly subs, I wouldn't be surprised if prices for GSTL tickets are exactly the same as the ones listed right now for GSL tickets. Hopefully not, because I don't think I could drop $200 on both of them, but I can understand if it is the case.
