Team games are bull****, I feel like I'm playing every game with a handicap. I always get the ****tiest teammates.

Giving up team games completely and focusing on 1v1 was the best thing I've ever done. This game was just not meant to be played with 2+ players on a team. It's bad, man.

I just hate when I get a random player that's ranked lower than me and we face two people who are in between my and my teammate's skill and who also know each other. Then my teammate says: Let's rush one of them, like really fast. And I'm like, should I just leave now?

I wish I could play two bases at once, I bet I could do it if they were both Protoss.

team games are pretty fun- you just have to have the right partner(s) and good communication.

that said, they don't really help you much in terms of actually getting better.

the validity of team games is completely bogus if you play any sort of planned game and is plat+ in 1v1 you can get masters in teamgames.

I'm top 800 masters but I can't get masters in 3s, go figure.

I think team games helped me micro better and just practice getting my apm up though. It wasn't a complete loss, but the most important builds are useless in team games. I can never make 10 sentries and have it be right which bothers me.

i played probably 2.5k+ team games before i played any 1v1s (any = just having enough to get to diamond then quitting...so like 45 games or something).

the builds are definitely different (as are the strategies). luckily most of my team game experience was in 2v2, where it requires some inkling of skill, whereas 3s/4s are not. so that experience helped me build a solid foundation for 1v1s in terms of mechanics.

when i finally ventured over to 1v1s, it took me about 350 games or so to reach masters. most of my problems were inefficient builds, as they were totally different in 1v1s relative to 2v2. my macro and micro were both alright relatively, just the builds had to be more refined.

cliffs: team games can build some decent fundamentals in terms of mechanics but the builds are (obviously) way different and the micro/macro are obviously more unforgiving in 1v1, where you don't have a partner to rely on.

Team games are fine for practice, I won't discount the amount of progress I was able to make playing tons of them. But really, playing 1v1s would've been more efficient practice. I couldn't get myself to just jump right into 1v1 though.

Just going by wins, in S1 70% of my ladder play was team games and in S2 it's still 50% despite me not having really played them in weeks. Look forward to S3 being <5%.

Playing random in 4v4s has helped me out. For one, I just play to piss around. I don't care much in 4v4s. But also, for me, playing the other races I was able to figure out what the little problems are. For example, Zerg units are very gas heavy. Terran LOLmules make a huge difference, and whatever else.

So for me it has helped me learn the other races so playing against them in a 1v1, I kind of know what is happening when I see what the other person is building.

The only team games I've really played are monobattles, but I think my micro has been helped at least a little bit. Something I think monobattles, in particular, are good for is helping creativity. I think of the craziest **** (tactics-wise) to do in monobattles, and I've actually done some of it on ladder.

Clearly the only way to settle this is for Gospy & narwhal to each assemble a 4v4 team & then duke it out in monobattles.

I'm just curious how one can be creative with only 1 unit.

very possible. i've played one game in the last week, basically because ladder is locked, been watching streams a lot more instead. probably start up again when new season starts. ****ed up sleeping patterns due to proleague doesn't help matters much either
