I think a stalker is the only 175 unit in the game. I've also seen QXC beat blink stalkers with mass reaper, so he was probably trying that. I believe the idea behind it is to kinda use them as mutas to keep protos in his base, without actually fighting the stalkers unless you can catch a lonely one. Since they're so mineral cheap you can safely expand and even get a 3rd meanwhile without having to fear pressure as you're containing him until he gets blink.

I suck so freakin' bad at this game. I can't even beat Bronze players. Maybe I need to get myself more worked up to start mashing some buttons.

PvZ and I keep running into a wall of Zerglings/Roaches, which they then go to Mutalisks. I don't know what I need to do to win. I keep trying early pressure, but by the time I get there they have 2 queens, 2 spine crawlers, 2 expos, 20 zerglings, 10 roaches. I'm just going to stop scouting and go 2 gate/robo and go immortals. Opening with zerglings and roaches seems to be standard.

You either get bum rushed by zerglings or you run into Roaches.

I've tried immortals into colossi, charged zealots...nothing works.

Finally won a game, PvP. Maybe there is hope! Tried to be a little faster with my button mashing. Ended up getting a bunch of Void Rays and had a proxy pylon, which I didn't really use that much.

Brag: Got +46 points for the win and went from 80th to 37th.
Beat: Was his first game in placement.

Game before that was PvZ and he zergling rushed me and kept surrounding my 1 zealot. I couldn't seem to find a place where he couldn't surround me. Once I rushed him with my probes he'd back off for like 10 seconds, then rush me again. He kept doing it. Piss me off.

No offense, havent you played like 30-40 games? How can you expect to be good at this game after barely playing it?

You need to practice to be good, if it was an easy game nobody would play it.

Lastly, dont stop scouting. Learn how to scout and macro at the same time. If you go 2 gate robo straight into immortals and you run into a very common strat such as muta ling...gg.

The point of early pressure is so Zerg can't mass drone but is forced to make units. So if you get there and he already has 20 lings and 10 roaches, your early pressure "worked". He should be very low on drones, so you should be ahead in income. Just survive his push and you'll win.

how early can your push be when they already have 2 spines 20 lings and 10 roaches?

I was pretty surprised when I attacked and he had so many units. Either I'm too slow, or he was super fast, or maybe I'm just too slow. haha

I guess it wasn't an early push, but I figured I would have some kind of advantage.

It's just frustrating to be in Bronze and playing against people who seem to have an advantage over me. I think mostly my problem is inexperience and just not playing fast enough. I'm still trying to get comfortable with the efficiency of using hotkeys and not clicking on buildings....and build orders according to matchup and what counters what.

I'll just take my bumps and bruises as I go along. I've heard from many people when I first started playing that I should expect to lose a lot.

I'm also trying to not take this game too seriously. For example, earlier when I was playing I tried the whole "has left the game!" trick, but it didn't work. I just made the guy kill off all my buildings so that it would end the game automatically. Dick move, but oh well.

You'd probably be at least gold or platinum if you spent your time watching your replays or watching Day9's show instead of whining here. I'm not trying to be mean I am completely serious. Or you could do both if you have the time.

There really is no reason to still be in bronze after 20-30 games. I'm sure a lot of people on here would be willing to help you out if you really wanted. My tag is MotherGoose + 208, hit me up if you want me to watch you play against a computer. I guarantee I could give you some tips that would at least get you to silver league in a week and most likely you could get to gold within 2-3 weeks if you learned the 4gate build order.

Also, it doesn't matter how fast you are until you start getting into high diamond. My APM is incredibly slow (usually around 45 according to replay APM counter) and I am a mid level diamond. A lot of newbs always blame their micro or APM for losing when it is always macro macro macro that causes them to lose.

I have watched Day9, but I got tired of watching them consistently when all he was doing was talking about the best players in the world. I know he has some newbie videos, but they are never geared towards Protoss.

I'm really not whining as much as it probably sounds like it. It's just talking in a normal tone.

I do watch replays, but sometimes I am just too frustrated to watch them right then. Why would I want to watch a replay that I just lost! haha (just sayin') I usually go back later and watch them after I took a break. Most of the time what I look for is if I was ever ahead and if that is when I should have attacked.

If you want to watch me play against the AI, that would be cool.

Also, I'm just Bronze in the PTR. I'm Gold in my live account, but I got Gold shortly after the game came out and then didn't play a competitive MP game in about 4 months, so I'm kind of back starting from scratch, or playing against people who have many more games played.

Honestly I don't know what my biggest problem is. I know APM doesn't really have anything to do with it. When I say I need to play faster, I don't mean I need to click more buttons. What I mean is that I probably just need to be on top of things and not slip behind by missing out on creating units when warpgates are ready, putting down another gateway at a certain time, etc.

So yeah...I'll add you. My live account is IronMan +208.

The stuff we went over isn't going to start making you win games outright. Getting better at SC2 is all about fixing all of these small "leaks" with your play. Leaks associated with scouting and macro are what lose games for almost all players that aren't in the top half of diamond. There isn't going to be any magic fix to suddenly make you a winning player. You have to put in a good amount of playing time if you want to be competitive in ladder because everyone is constantly adapting to the current level of play.

I recommend you post some replays in the protoss thread and ask them to critique your plays.

Went 1-2 after scar helped me out. Thanks again!

Was PvP (win) - the guy had an APM of like 10 so no way I would lose that.
PvT - Lost Temple - MM - sliced right through my army with stim/conc. My army was gone before I even had a chance to look at them.
PvT - Xel - MM again - held off his first attack with some VRs, but I was constantly out of minerals. Nothing I could do to get back into it even when he gave me a couple minutes.

I don't know. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'll have to start posting some replays. I feel like I'm slowly starting to get better with my starting build, like I'm starting to get a good feel of when to move my probe out to start my pylon, send him to scout, stay on top of everything, get a gateway/zealot up, and get my assimilator up without slipping behind.

I guess it's just a slow process and I have to keep playing. I can't expect to be in Diamond tomorrow, maybe not ever. A little by little I should get better when I see what works. Might have to give up my dream of going pro. (jk)

EDIT: Yeah I'll play some tomorrow since it's the weekend and post some replays.

+1 to bold

Also, back in the beta days I watched only HuskyStarcraft / HDstarcraft for a solid like 2-3 weeks (I still watch them to pass the time and w/e).
Had a background in SC1 (and by background I mean I just played a lot of those newbie 3v3 shared map games) and insta-put me on plat. Played like 20 games and put me on diamond.

PS I feel the same way about watching replays...I tend to watch only games that I won and critique what I could've done better, rather than watching games I lost.

There are certain games you really should watch however.
This includes games where you lost to an early tech (like DTs).
If you are consistently losing a certain match-up, you need to watch those too.
If you won a game but have a gut feeling there could've been something different, I'd watch those as well.

Recently I kept losing to the 4gate zlot warp rush (I play P) and watched a lot of those replays to combat it.

PS I'm in the help-y mood so feel free to add me.
I'm always up for practice matches, and I kinda wanna dabble into other races too so

I'm Ksight +276

protoss macro is the easiest of the 3 races. they tell you when warpgates are ready to warp in just like how they tell you when you have idle workers. if you constantly make probes + pylons and make sure your warpgates are constantly warping in units, you'll win a ton of games.

You have to look back to a pylon to warp stuff, you have to click each individual time(can't mash z), and you can't continuously produce...

Just played a 2v2 game with a buddy of mine. We're only in Gold and not really great on the teamwork side. We just played against xSCWx who decided to start talking **** to us without us provoking him. You're pretty cool man, and obviously win at life from being so good at SC2.

Seemed like a pretty immature idiot in game, and he's supposed to be a poker coach for husng.com? I personally wouldn't want to be coached by a douchebag like him.
