Yeah I know I want a stick for flying for sure. I saw a video of a stick/mouse flying/aiming combo that looked pretty solid. I'm hoping I can get some sort of setup that I can do everything without breaking out of my rift bubble.
Get Voice Attack for sure then. You can set up voice commands for anything you want. It'll be perfect for Oculus Rift and Chris Roberts is talking to the developers about implementing it in-game.
What's the ballpark target release for this now? I haven't been following the day to day since kickstarter backing. 1 more year? 2?
My previous post is still a pretty good guess. I'd say the full release will be 2016, but if you have alpha access then you can look forward to playing the persistent universe sometime next year, maybe in the summer.

I stopped playing when v0.9 came out since it got much harder to aim (I have the base ship with fixed guns). Apparently they're letting everyone try out all the released ships this week so I'll give it another go.
Lots of cool videos out there. I totally forgot about this thread but I'll post some of the better ones as I come across them. This weekend should be the first FPS module video.
Frankie is starting a series on this, I hadn't seen anything about the game in well over a year and looks like it's come a long way. I'm sure he had some buddies play along in the making of this, but he has some interesting encounters in the last half of the video where he shows off some first person combat and how ships can be shot at or stolen while unoccupied.
The destruction though doesn't look anywhere near as interesting as some of the demo videos on ship model destruction I've seen. I suppose those systems aren't in the game proper yet? Also it looks like early DayZ in terms of other player characters ghosting around, so looks like the netcode might be jank too.
Any thoughts on what kind of hardware is going to needed for this? Interested enough in it to think about getting my first Windows box since Vista but am way out of touch with what good hardware means.
There is a thread about hardware requirements on the Star Citizen forums. No idea what is neccessary, but I know my computer can't do it I'm planning on buying new hardware cloes to release.
Haven't dug into their forums yet, just been seeing some cool youtubes on it and miss the genre. Any idea how much more expensive ships get once it goes live?
When the game goes live, everything can be earned in game.
I decided to dive head first into the alpha experience. I purchased two Thrustmaster-T16000M joysticks for full 6 axis flight control (about $100 total) and am loving flying around and testing the development of the game. Huge potential and I'm already having lots of fun with it.
The game may never come out but holy **** does it look incredible now--the Gamescom stream is worth watching. Makes No Man's Sky look like child's play both in gameplay and size.
After getting "scammed" by NMS, people need to better appreciate the transparency of SC's development process.
Anyone who thinks this game is a scam or anything close, has not been paying attention. They've been showing us everything from day 1. We know exactly how far along they are, and how far behind the original schedule they are... And you can be confident enough that the game will eventually ship with every promised feature, like actual multiplayer.
