Make sure you log out and log back in. I had the same issue and did that. Now it's working.

I've tooled around some. The hangar looks incredible. Climbing into the cockpit and exploring the ship is a little less impressive, IMO. I noticed a lot of screen tearing and the visuals on the computers onboard is a little 1995-ish. Still, it's a pre-alpha build. It was still cool to go into the hangar and see all my ships there.

I've probably tried to load the hangar 30 times by now... every time it tells me "connection timed out"

Finally got in! woot!!

Sat in my pilot's chair and made *vroom* *vroom* noises

Lots of clipping issues. Also the lighting was flaky whenever I moved the camera.

Hit $20 million and FPS play planetside is unlocked. Basically Crysis 3 is now a part of this game.

It already was; in the FPS boarding mechanic. All this does is add new environments to fight in.

True, but I'm assuming fighting on planets is going to allow for much more open gameplay (like Crysis) than it would have been just boarding ships in small spaces. It seems like a significant addition, assuming it is actually a sandbox type thing.

Would be epic if different planets had different psychics that (slightly) altered the conditions of battles. IE, low gravity, no electrical equipment, etc.

I haven't been following the game much lately. Have they made their pricing model any clearer? My interest went from ZOMG level to "Meh, f that" when I read about microtransactions and a real money economy. Apparently I'm in a small minority that feels that a crowd-funded game that never mentioned F2P aspects at the beginning is now taking that route especially one that's raked in almost $25 million in crowd funding. Just glad I didn't support it at the start and decided to wait and see, I'd feel like a huge sucker since this is exactly the type of thing I hate supporting and playing.

Everything is purchasable with in game credits, and it's not planned to take excessively long to buy even the bigger ships. No numbers have been finalized since absolutely no one knows how much play time it would take to earn any number of credits in game. The largest and rarest ships will actually not be available for cash purchase at all; you have to earn those in game.

But yes, players who pay more will get a headstart over players who don't. You don't have to pledge if you're worried about a model that supports pay to win. If the game turns out to be great when it's finally released you can just buy it then, and you'll be in the same boat as everyone who got the $25 pledge a year ago. Not a big deal really and not something that anyone needs to be worried about missing out on.

Weevil, it's not F2P. If you want to play after release you'll need to buy a copy. During the initial crowd-funding round I think they said retail would be $60.

There is a pay-2-win aspect, as you can buy better starting gear, but as Dr. Wily said the absolute best is not purchaseable. Also this is at it's core a skill based game. You can't purchase skill (well I guess you could pay some chinese people to fight your battles, but what's the point?).

Also the game is not simply the persistent universe as Squadron 42 will be it's own stand-alone game similiar to Wing Commander.

This really does sound like it's going to be just the 100% immersive sci-fi MMORPG / simulator that ends my life on Planet Earth. I've been expecting this for ten years.
