How was X-Wing any different? Tie Fighter was later and more advanced and the greatest space combat game of all time, so I'll give you that one.
Basically you have escort missions, patrol missions, and assault missions in each game. I fail to see how X-Wing was "more sophisticated" than WC3. It's unfair to compare it to WC1/2 because they were released a couple years earlier and are the reasons X-Wing even existed. Plus technology improved, etc.
I love all of these games mentioned, but they each have strengths and weaknesses. WC games have BY FAR better plot and story, for instance, than the X-Wing games.
