I doubt they can even remember all the features they said would be in the game.

If Star Citizen's development is so transparent, why was it news when they announced the FPS module was being indefinitely delayed? And why is there so much uncertainty about release dates for the various modules? Transparency my arse, no-one outside of the devs has a genuine clue about anything substantive about that game.

There is actually a maintained list of "promised" features that some people are managing, and it actually does not have a thousand different things on it. You'd be surprised at how few features they actually confirmed will be in the game. Although some people just can't tell the difference between a confirmed feature and "this is something we would like to include at some point."

Since a full release (and not just open beta) is still years away, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to ship with 99% or 100% of all promised features. Even Obama managed to keep around half of his promises.

I haven't kept up to date on every controversy but one of the reasons the fps module was delayed/cancelled is because they are more or less scrapping the entire "module" system, where the game gets released in separate, individual parts.

Obviously the FPS stuff is incredibly delayed, even by CIG standards (at one point I recall them firing the entire fps dev team? or something similar), but it's not like it won't be in the game.

It was in the 3.0 demo from the game conference this week. With ship to ground and ground vehicles included, looked like a pretty cool demo.

So I played whatever the current version is this weekend, 3.2 or some such.
Mining is not too bad, you're doing some sensitive control of the mining laser power and you screw up the rock explodes and damages your ship. The downside is there isn't a way to tell who is buying what without going to the station and seeing, and the screen doesn't show what the place is buying, only what of yours they'll buy. So you can't check before hand. This is annoying and the first time you use the screen it feels like a bug.

Trading is a bit similar, you can buy stuff but you can't tell where to sell stuff without going there. ~70% of the time I was traveling from the surface to space to warp someplace or trying to get a warp point unobstructed I came across bandits. They were easy to outrun, but still a pain.

The bad parts:
Got disconnected while in my miner and had to file a claim to get it back.
Was landing at the 3rd place to try and sell the cargo of gold I had and got disconnected and lost my cargo and all my money.
Trying to find my ship at a security station my fighter was destroyed on the landing pad by some random dude just destroying all the ships at the station.
Tried to do a clean up mission and the location they sent me to was on the other side of the plant from where it jumped my ship to. Got disconnected trying to get to the other side of the planet. Now, every clean up mission fails to give me a location to start at.
I have the 5 credits it defaults you too which is the amount required to reclaim a destroyed or lost ship.

Think I'll give it another year...

What is a reasonable time frame for this to get released?

Never is still live.

It's probably not going to happen next year, most likely it will continue to be more and more playable as they add and tweak features. Squadron 42 probably has a shot for next year...

This will go down in history for a long time as the most successful game to never release.

Even if they do somehow miracle an official release, the game would be so broken from all the P2W going on in the kickstarter that nobody outside the niche of the game is going to take it seriously.

If it never releases, or comes out in a half-arsed state, Star Citizen will be used as a case study for marketing and psychology students. How ordinary consumers were persuaded to spend millions on a pipe-dream. Maybe Roberts' plan is to licence the (apparently genuinely impressive) tech they've developed.

I mean, over-promising and hyping untested product designs are hallmarks of Silicon Valley startups. If anything this fiasco is par for the tech course.

at this point i just assumed this game is a scam. it blows my mind people spend money on this ****, its not even close to a real game yet. but a fool and their money are soon parted and all that.

Scam seems like a strong way to describe this. What they're doing is (seems?) pretty incredible. Even if the game never launches they've created some great stuff which will definitely see use.

I think the big thing is the conflict of interests which donations has created, where taking donations is so profitable that they keep promising to add more stuff even though it is counterproductive to actually releasing a game.

yeah i read it too and it just confirmed everything ive thought about the game. total scam, game prolly will never be released. if it does release will be **** af with everything too dated to be relevant.
