I am not a gamer myself, but I build this for my son, so he can play E-Sports games @ 1080p with 144MHz monitor:



Ryzen 2600 with GTX 1070 in mini ITX build with Coolermaster H100 ITX case. 2x8GB RAM and a small M.2 NVMe drive of 256GB.
All the power he needs to play @144 FPS and the system won't kill my energy bill.

No pics but I have a Intel i9-10900K with GTX3080 and ASUS STRIX Z490-A motherboard. Corsair liquid cooling. 2x16GB of RAM. 500GB SSD for to boot windows and games I want to load quickly and 2T HHD for everything else.

Plays 1440p at 144fps like butter, my monitor is probably the bottleneck and it could run either 240fps or 4k resolution at 144fps. And runs PIO sims relatively quickly.


Unfortunately last Saturday it pooped out on me after only 18 months. Crashed during normal operations and wont POST now. I think (hope) its the motherboard, its not the PSU, RAM or GPU. Its still under warranty thru ASUS so I need to get the ball moving on replacing it.

This is a prebuilt system? That is terrible. How can they sell such ****. The RX 6400 isn't worthy of your money. It is even worse than the GTX 1650. Such a waste of silicon.

The 5600g is only really good if you combine it with no graphics card in a budget gaming rig, as it has a quite amazing integrated GPU. With a graphics card, it is basically a handicapped CPU, because to get the GPU integrated, they had to make concessions, like reducing the L3 cache.

I wonder how much performance you would lose selling that GPU and just gaming on the integrated graphics.

Seriously, get out on the used GPU market and get a GTX 1070 or GTX 1660 super/Ti or something. You can find them for below 200$ now and your gaming performance will increase massively.

Yeah, that is a 4k system you got there. The i9 is overkill for gaming, but if you run sims as well, it is a good choice. What power supply are you using (brand/model)?

Yeah prebuilt. I bought it mostly out of necessity as it fit my budget.

So far it runs perfectly for my needs. I can run Witcher 3 and Days Gone at High/Ultra settings and get over 60FPS.

I got a 850W Straight Power 11 - 80 Plus Gold.

I prebuilt it thru IBuyPower, picking out what components I wanted. I wanted to build it myself but this was Dec/Jan 21' during peak Bitcoin, so GPUs were scarce and the best way to get one in a reasonable time was prebuilt. Still took over a month to receive the components and then less than a week for them to build and ship it to me.

However now that my motherboard is shot, I need to take it out to get the serial number for the warranty and then rebuild it when I get it repaired/replaced.

Sweet. I'm kinda surprised they actually put a tier 1 power supply in the PC. They often cheap out with inferior models.

The only thing I dislike is the 2TB HD. That's sooooo 1990. I would have preferred a 1 or 2 TB SSD M.2 NVMe.

Had to pinch pennies somewhere lol. Those big SSDs are expensive, and this HDD was on a super special. Still have the 500g SSD for things that I need to load quickly though, but TV shows, movies, PIO solves, hand histories, and games without much loading still go on the HDD.

will it play crysis on high? no. will it play the 20 year old games, nes emulators and the occasional unity engine newer game i play and stream at the same time? you bet.

That is a massive GPU bottleneck you got there. The Ryzen 3600 can easily support a mid-high end GPU, like an RTX 3060, 2070 or RX 6600XT.

Wait for fall when Ethereum mining formally dies and the market will be flooded with millions of the cheapest GPUs the world has ever seen.
You will be like a kiddie in a candy store.

If that EVGA PSU is a white model, get rid of it when you upgrade GPU, it is a crap unit. If it is an EVGA bronze or better, you are OK, as long as your GPU doesn't require you to upgrade to >500W.

The only thing I would do now is sell off your 2x4GB RAM, while there is still demand for it and replace with 2x8GB 3200CL16 or 3600CL16. RAM prices are pretty good right now.

I know, but I don't play much that needs anything better and was on a budget at the time. It's an easy upgrade path if I need to but I doubt I see anything new that I want to play

Finally got my PC fixed. It was the CPU, not the motherboard. Got a new motherboard and had the same problem and yesterday the new CPU came in and it booted right up. Thank God for Newegg return policy.

I also decided to upgrade my case to the new Hyte y60 and get some RGB fans + an extra 32gb of RGB memory ( 32gb not enough to run deepstacked PIO sims with more than 2 sizes).

Pics incoming later when I get it all back in the case this weekend. Next step will be custom watercooling, but I need to bink an MTT first My AIO CPU Watercooler will suffice for now.



I was also considering what to do with my old desktop. It has an old 2nd/3rd Gen i7, (not sure which, its 10 years old) with a GTX950. It was covered in dust and ran like **** but I think it can still be decent if I put it in a smaller, clean case and use a better CPU fan. I was thinking maybe a dedicated PIO computer so it can still run scripts while gaming/playing. Not sure how slow my old processor would be for that, but TBH I would be less concerned about solving speed if it was a dedicated PC for solves.

Loving this new case. Install was super easy. The power supply being in the back is awesome, no more running huge power cables thru the firewall twice

I'm in Canada, it worked out to about $2200 USD plus taxes. Usually I build my own computers but in this case it wouldn't save me any money. I debated getting everything except the video card and using my current GTX 1080 until prices came down more but said **** it.

I had expected more expensive. Not bad.

If I had to build something like that with second hand parts it would be 1200-1500 I guess. The GPU goes for 600€ ish on the market here in Spain.

Yeah I worked out prices and it was basically the same to get it built rather than build myself. GPU prices are slowing coming down but they are still ridiculous. That 3080 was $1040 CAD. 3080s here are $900-1500. 3090s start at $1600, a few months ago they were like $2200.
