Re: Sekiro

Yeah, I'm finding the combat really difficult. Ordinary enemies aren't too bad but special ones are really challenging, and some aspects of how you come across them are really annoying. The two bosses I've come across in Hirata Estate so far are both great examples, in that there's a bunch of crap you have to go through from the nearest bonfire idol just to get to the fight that's gonna take you 10 tries to beat.

I also miss, from DS, the idea that if you at least had great timing you could get through anything. Seems like that isn't enough here and with like 3 different attack types that all need different counters, it's gonna be way more difficult.

There are positives certainly - taking a Souls-like game and really opening up the terrain and your movement for the first time is really cool.

Woke up drenched in sweat, fired up the PS4 and proceeded to lay a beatdown on Lady Butterfly. My brain just needed to finish updating.

Nice bud...I'm on the boss right before that and know a great way to make this easier that I tested once and almost worked but I died right before he did.

I just got lucky I think. After taking out the first bar I did a massive hack and slash when he was backed in a corner and it was quick enough that he would block, get hit, then block and get hit...he didn't get to counter. If he would have gotten in a counter I wouldn't have been able to finish him that way.

I made a stupid mistake and did not notice on the enhance skills tree that there are 2 different trees in there so I didn't even do the grappling attack upgrade until just last night fml...helped a ton against a certain boss along with the firecrackers sigh...live and learn.

I did one vitality upgrade and one power upgrade...has anyone noticed if that even makes a difference (the power upgrade in particular)? It doesn't seem like it, but I'm curious how much more attack output it is.

It would be funny if attack power did nothing.

Re: Sekiro

Nothing like beating a boss, thinking you get a new large section break to explore only to find out the next boss in line is ready to stomp you sigh lol. I'm only 1 prayer bead away from the 2nd vitality bump, but I don't think I can get one unless I beat either the Mini Boss I am at in Ashina castle gate, or the end boss (I think) of Hirata estate. Both stomped me pretty good, so I'll need to do some adjustments.

Re: Sekiro

Can someone comment on the amount of bosses (or amount of time stuck on bosses) compared to DS3?

It seems that every time I watch this game on twitch, its someone who is stuck on a boss.

From what I have seen/heard there are a decent amount of bosses if you include the mini bosses in there. As for the time on them, that is really person dependent and hard to answer. Having played and beaten DS3 I am struggling more with this game early on at the boss parts. You can't really over level up like you can in some stat areas of DS3 and are forced to "gitgud" as they say. You can only increase your attack power and health a little bit early on and that is only if you get a few items to do so.

I went through DS3 without parrying so when playing this game I am behind the learning curve to start since it is kind of more important. I am bad at the timing and still will not do it unless I am stuck in a spot I think. I am more of a hack and slash player which is not a good thing in this game in a lot of areas.

That being said, the game is more forgiving in a couple areas. You don't have to worry about walking off the branches like you would in DS3. You take less fall damage then DS3...just to name a couple.

Assuming you didn't beat the Hirata boss yet...

Re: Sekiro

This is going to be a slow slog for me, but that's perfectly ok. A couple of nights ago I struck out completely against the drunkard and the mini boss after the chained ogre, but took them both down last night. Love this game, even though it's going to give me a lot of grief in the weeks to come.

Re: Sekiro

This ****ing game.

Fighting the chained ogre for the 15th time, I've accepted that this is stupid and that I'll just accept death over and over instead of resurrecting.

Then I die, respawn, and somehow get more rot essence. I have not chosen resurrection in hours.

These boss fights are really annoying me. I don't remember, in Dark Souls games, ever getting to a point where I had ~3 paths open and was not particularly excited to play any of them because they all had bosses at the end that I knew I was going to spend the next 2 hours fruitlessly throwing myself at. And this is so early in the game. Sigh.

Re: Sekiro

Two things about that video:
- when the ogre first sees him, how does the ogre lose sight of him eventually? Every boss fight I've seen, doesn't matter if you run and hide, the boss info stays in the upper left and it doesn't lose you (which kinda makes sense for gameplay reasons, otherwise you could just reset them and backstab repeatedly to kill them all). Ogre fight would have been a lot easier had I managed to knock out one of his life bars with a backstab, but I never could.
- what did he do at 7:35 to avoid that grab? In my experience, that grab gets me every single time. (I'd always attempt to backstep away, but if I didn't get far enough quick enough, he'd grab me - that dude just stays right in front of him and it did nothing to him, wtf)

I did eventually kill the dude after like 25 total attempts.

This is exactly me with DS3, I really enjoyed the game but I never even beat it bc I'm at 2 tough bosses (the main dude in the archives and the woman with her dad). Ill pass on sekiro for this reason. I'm really surprised people enjoy a tough boss fight that takes 30 tries. Its more frustrating than enjoyable once you beat it.

Just resurrect. Dragonrot is not a big deal and pretty easy to cure.

Step-dodge+attack does that sweep with the sword. Either really good timing with iframes or the hitbox/grabbox starts away from the ogre's body. I hope he uploads a full playthrough sometime.

Re: Sekiro

Good news is I have progressed past lady butterfly along with a couple mini bosses afterwards. I'm at what's considered the hardest boss of the game and it's only like the halfway point lol. I decided to take a different path and work through senpou temple. I think I may need to find some prayer beads and farm some skill points to open up a few more tricks. Since I suck at my timing with parrying we will see if I can even come close to beating this game.
