They do it better.

Macro/micro, APM

They react on time, and they usually expect something when it's time. They know what they scouted.

The biggest and most important difference between a platinum player and a diamond player is mechanics. The biggest and most important difference between a diamond player and a masters player is mechanics. The biggest and most important difference between a masters player and a pro player is mechanics. Mechanics is everything.

At some point, game knowledge (strategies, timings, interpreting what you scout, correct responses for particular situations, what tactics to use when) becomes a significant factor.

Not as important as mechanics obviously, but still important. Not until at least mid-diamond though IMO. Before then, your mechanics are generally so horrible that there's not much point trying to learn all that stuff, since you can improve your game 10x faster simply by focusing on mechanics.

I've noticed everyone's definition is a little bit different. What do you guys mean when you say mechanics?

IMO, mechanics are the actual execution of any decisions you make. For example, getting that round of warpins off a 4gate right on time at 5:45, rather than the 6:15 or 6:30 which seems to be way more common.

It's your ability to micro, macro and multitask

I think knowing timings is really important for low diamond / masters. I regularly beat people with 2-3 as much APM as me because Im strategically very solid and what I am doing and what can be done to me thus I dont need to multitask as well to win because the amount I need to do is streamlined.

I also think a really solid grasp of positioning armies can help you beat much better mechanical players.

Don't watch those replays on 8x or even 4x speed. You have to know what you're looking for in a replay if you're trying to learn. Pick a point in the game: say 7 minutes and pause it. Look at the worker saturation, look at the tech/unit producing structures, look at supply. Then compare that to what you have at 7 minutes. Why does he have more or less buildings? Why does he have more or less units? Why did he stop building unit X? Why does he have lots of unit Y?

There's also a lot of subtle differences in timings/orders that you will not catch if you aren't looking for it, in particular in the early stage of the game. It's pretty easy to see "oh he's going for 3gate expo". But you might not notice "he goes gate -> gate -> pylon" where you go "pylon -> gate -> gate". Those small reorderings can be pretty huge especially in the early stages of the game.

Yeah, 1 order is enough.

Ha yea, it wasn't all for me but still. Half an order is enough for 2 people if that's what they usually do.

lol yeah they always do this for some reason. You can order one small order of fries and get enough fries for 3 or 4 people cuz they just dump like a pound extra into the bag.
