I play 2v2 to 4v4's with friends. Out of the 8 of us, I'm 2nd best, maybe 3rd, with a few major gaps among our skill levels. 1(1k diamond) >>> 23(bottom diamond/top plat) >>> 456 (silver/gold) > 78(bronze).
a few tips from my experience.
1. share control, so your friend can control your units, alllowing you to focus on macro.
2. as a bronze player, focus on building 2 things. marines and marauders. this should win you games even facing platnium players. 1 base with 1 refinery going can generally support 3 rax of constant production, with 2 tech labs, and 1 reactor. you don't get that 2nd refinery (too many newbs get it too early when going bio build imo, hey guise 2 gas, so 2 refineries!) until around when you're getting that 3rd rax up, to get all the tech lab upgrades.
3. basic build order
9 - supply
12 - rax
13 - refinery
15 - orbital command
15 - first marine
16 - supply
16 - tech lab (assuming no ridiculous early pressure, sometimes you just need to pump marines immediately, adding a 2nd rax before orbital command)
then continue adding a 2nd rax (add reactor) when you have 150 minerals and a 3rd rax (tech lab) with supply depots and scv's constantly pumping. there's nothing more important than constant scv production & supply depots. once you have 3rax's with 2 pumping marauders, you'll have to commit 2 scv's to producing supply depots, instead of just one.
then get a 2nd command center for expansion, when you guys do your first major push around 50 food.
4. once you get your expo running, either add 3 more rax's (addons are up to you) or tech up to factories or starports. never stop making scv's (you should have games where you have like 70 scv's).
also, mass marines works really well in early pushes in team games. transitioning out is important though.
i go something like
12- rax
13- refinery
15- rax
once i collect 100 gas for 2 reactors addons, and then take scv's off gas until i get a 3rd rax for tech lab (put scv's back on gas for shield/stim/marauders) expand (and tech or get alot more rax's). push with about 10-12 marines, while rax's are rallied to your army.
another option is to just get 3 raxes (then orbital), with no refineries, just pump marines (about 12), and addon 2 refineries while you upgrade to orbital and push simultaneously. once both refineries are up, i get appropriate addons, judging from what i see, expand and add more rax or tech.
