Is there any advantage to gateways over warp gates? Since you can freely switch between the two, I'm a little curious why you would use the one that doesn't result in getting units in like 5 seconds (maybe warp gate cooldown is longer than gateway production time?).

There is zero disadvantage of warpgates compared to gateways. Warpgates have shorter cooldowns and you nearly instantly realize your investment. They're one of the coolest mechanics IMO, and it makes my life easier since I can macro much better with knowing when warpgates are off CD.

I think it used to be longer for wg in some cases, but this was fixed iirc. The specific wg times for each unit have been changed numerous times.

Gold brotoss here (used to be high plat, close to zero play last 1.5 yrs). Anyway, I'm thinking of changing races to zerg, but have barely played the race at all. What are some of the things I should focus on initially?

Qualification for the first SC2 OSL is ongoing right now I believe. I don't think any SC1 pros have made any waves yet. More time is needed in this pretty competitive seen IMO.
