Artosis is doing great vids on his youtube channel and is pretty good at explaining basics/fundamentals as well as advanced strategy. He isn't posting enough of those sadly

I haven't watched Day 9's dailies in a while because I haven't followed/played SC2 either, but I think his instruction is generally very good. The advanced strategy is lacking a little but for a new player the newbie Tuesdays and some of the older dailies on fundamentals are probably the best stuff out there (disclaimer: I haven't seen any of the Artosis stuff).

Day9 is a godawful caster though. He used to be reasonable but he's now one of the worst.

I don't think this as far off as I thought at first.

While he is a relatively poor caster, what actually annoys me (and I'd suspect others would have the same opinions) about him is that he still has a large fanbase for his talent level. In a way, we dislike him for the same reasons that his fanboys love him- he's more successful (in a Starcraft sense) than we are. Of course, they view it as him being amazing, and we view it as him being overrated, but I think it stems from the same jealousy.

If he were to lose all of his fans and be relegated to casting minor tournaments, I think a lot of the vocal hate for him would dissipate- and I don't think it would wholly be due to the fact that we didn't see him as often.

first tournament i saw was trial of xel naga when it was just troll games and i loved it (was really new to starcraft then and didnt really know what was going on but there were nukes and it was awesome!) He was great when it comes to just trying to be funny and storytelling, but his serious casting technique annoys me too. the "often times...." lines tilts me so bad

Day9 just tries to hard. He tries to find mistakes where no mistakes were made, just to look good imo.

He needs to learn how to speak English. He constantly emphasizes words in the middle of thoughts for no particular reason. It's extremely annoying.

I'm playing through the WoL campaign right now where you are Terran all the time, and I generally understand the Terran units etc. Is there a resource somewhere that explains in very simple terms (I've been playing for 2 weeks) what the units/tech are for Protoss (and Zerg if it is available but I am curious about Protoss) at a very basic level? All the stuff I found on Liquipedia assumes a bit too much knowledge about what these units actually are.

There is a tech tree within the client of SC2 - or at the very least, what the units are. I can't tell you offhand how to get there without logging in, but click around and you'll find it.

Also, keep in mind that some units in the campaign are not in multiplayer.

Try this too if you'd like something online: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/game/

GOld and silver are the same to me, I am waiting for promotion, very soon once I have plugged some remaining leaks and further practiced combining micro and macro I will be pretty unbeatable in lower leagues as I am developing a system to win most matchups. Aggression is key, it is like being white in chess.
