what are the disadvantages/advantages of each race (incl random) for a player, given his skill set.

im a total total beginner, and im trying to find what my strengths are and play suit to that w/ a race. i think my micro is terrible so i've been playing w/ terran alot (dono why, i guess maybe i understand their tech tree the most?)

im trying to post a replay of what i think was my only decent game ive played so far (im like 3-10 in bronze league). any help there? and any thoughts on what races are best suited for different types of players?

thanks guys!

Terran is pretty noob friendly with respect to micro.

Since this is a LC thread, I'm going to remark how bus services are racist.

for low lvl players i think zerg is the easiest to macro, but hardest to micro, terran hardest to macro and u can just a move with toss units. It ofc changes a bit the higher u go. At top lvl i think toss is hardest to micro and zerg is hardest to macro

I don't think I've ever played against a z player that knew how to micro. I think T requires the most though tbh, with units like reapers, banshees, tanks (positioning), marines & marauders, all of which are made better with good micro.

*coughmicrowarsplatinumcough*

TBH In a real game I'd say zerg requires the least micro control in battles to be effective. Terran has to usually manage stim and siege (+tank positioning is huge) while toss has forcefields, blink, storm, colossi etc to manage. Zerg doesn't usually have that tank/colo type heavy hitter unit unless you have ultras on the field, and no real casters to manage unless you get infestors. On the other hand zerg macro is a little bit trickier than the other two races, since your limiting factor (beyond resources) is larva. While T+P can constantly build probes/scvs from nexus/cc, you will have to choose whether that larva becomes a drone or a combat unit. If you go too drone heavy early you're short on army and die a fiery death in <10 minutes. Too heavy on the army and you're short on economy and die a fiery death in 11 minutes.

For a beginner I'd recommend terran simply because they're human-like, and the tech tree is a little easier to understand. Barracks train combat troops...Factories manufacture machines...Starports make things that fly! vs wtf is a hydralisk and wat is a stalker. Toss and terran both have a simply executed strategy for beginners that will give you a chance to be successful and slowly master the finer aspects of gameplay: the 4gate for protoss and the 3rax for terran.

gl with whatever you choose.

Watch your mineral count; gas count; food count and the minimap. Always mentally go through that cycle and keep the minerals/gas < 500 and never get supply blocked.

If you manage to do that and constantly build workers and only attackmove all your units into battle to start you're already way ahead of the curve

If you have trouble with the order and whatnot just do the 3rax build 5 times a day vs the AI or something untill you got all 3 rax up and pump a couple of units and attack move in, your brain will pretty quickly be thinking a couple of steps ahead (ok I'll hit X supply soon so build that etc.)

Oh and obviously use hotkeys for everything that has hotkeys (i.e. don't manually click to build a marine or stim)

once you can do this the whole game, you'll be sick

(no sarcasm, for reals)

do 1 build order until you can accomplish that. then branch out into diff BOs

ugh zerg players who can actually micro are so tough

i <3 zerg who come up to my base with a bunch of mutas, see 1 thor or a bunch of marines or 1 turret and just insta leave rather than the ones who sit there and perfectly harass the **** out of everything finding every little hole in my defense. it makes me overproduce turrets in games following. zerg hive-mind-meta-game imo

On euro server u only got points for win and no additional bonus points (but bonus pool was still rising tho) in the past 3-4 days.

I thought the bonus pool had just broke for 1v1 and 2v2 on EU server a few days before the patch. No-one received the bonus points for a win even if there were points available in the bonus pool so they just built up.

watching the iccup.tv stream right now they have warcraft 2 music in the background. Anybody know of any WC2 commentaries? Brief youtube search gave nothing but some games on weird maps with no commentary, but that was a pretty sweet game as i recall

I was too young to play competently but I remember thinking Death and Decay >>>> Polymorph and thinking it seemed pretty unfair. That's like the extent of my memories though.

I think I remember D&D could take down a tower in one cast and Blizzard could not.

Polymorph wasn't the mage final skill? Hmm, shows how well I can remember lol.

Either way Death and Decay >>>>

haha same hit 1 bronze last night.

My buddy and I play 2v2s too and he's a platinum player and carries us alot so we probably play players better than me most of the time. He's always bitchin' that I don't have a big enough army and I'm usually in the bottom few on the score screen. I'm always trying to make scvs and think I am pretty good at keeping them pumping out. The only way I've found to move up is to just build reactors on my first 3 barracks and pump out marines. What am I doing wrong? I usually expand when he tells me to etc. etc.
