I'm absolutely loving the influx of retail fish.

I finally got around to taking a break from the single player stuff and playing my 5 placement matches last night.

I have decided to be a Zerg player, so I 6-pool rushed all 5 games.

It was pretty risky considering 4 of my 5 games were played on 4-player maps. But I was confident in my abilities to guess proper opponent positioning.

What's HILARIOUS is that 2 of the 5 games involved people who scouted my 6 pool rush. They still couldn't fend it off.

I placed platinum of course, so I look forward to getting ROFLSTOMPED back down to high gold where I probably belong.

i'm starting to realize my early game is okay, while my mid late game is really weak. once a game gets to 2 bases +, i really need to learn to macro better ... you zerg players have my admiration

As expected, after going 5-0 in under 4 minutes for each placement match, my first 3 games have been against diamond players and I'm 0-3.

They've been close games, but at no point in any of them was there a point in which I thought to myself, "I might win this."

FFFFUUUUUUUUU having to play legit is killing me.

In one of my placements, the matchup was TvT so obviously I go tank/viking.

I laughed when he said "how do you shoot farther than me? is it a cheat?".

In a ZvZ game, after I took out all of his workers my opponent said "****ing cheesy ******" to me then left ... when he was doing the exact same strategy: ling/baneling. Huh?

This happened to me

I realized you can only get 1 zealot out vs the 6 lings and I need to pull off probes

I'm so ****ing sick and tired of this ****ing game.

Couldn't sleep so I decided to play a game.

0-6 maybe 7?

NO matter what I did it wasn't good enough. I don't see how I can get any faster.

I mass units, I expand, I try to counter, but it's just not good enough.

My micro probably sucks, but I should be able to overwhelm these guys.

2-3 times now I play against protoss who just sit back in their base all defended up with photon cannons and mass void rays.

Then you got terran who already are able to wall off and defend, as if that isn't easy enough for them already.

I don't even think I played against zerg at all.

So tired of it. I DO NOT BELONG IN GOLD!

I think I'm 5-9 now maybe? Just so ****ing pissed off right now at this game. I don't know how I can get any faster. I feel like macro wise, for the most part, I'm playing the best I ever have. I just don't get it. Can't do much when they get 10 void rays and attack your base. No amount of micro in the world will help that, even when I have about 20 stalkers sitting there.

Then another thing, I go to attack on maps with ramps and the stupid ****s just run away like they are looking for another entrance. No mother ****er, you go up the ****ing ramp and attack. Why can't you get up there? Oh, because the stupid mother ****er is all walled in and camped up just sitting there like a ****ing douchebag. Push out earlier? Nope, attack with mass stalkers and they got ****ing photon cannons already and of course since this stupid POS game loves to have ramps, I can't get up there without getting all of my stalkers stuck on the ramp while they get alien anal probed by photon cannons.

**** this game. This has to be worse than getting noobtubed on MW2. Sit back in your base like a little stupid bitch. WTF. Come out and fight you bunch of pussies.

For the first 2 or 3 games I was ok with losing. It really wasn't a big deal. Then 4, then 5, then 6, then 7. It's seriously what the ****!?!?!? If this stupid ****ing POS game would have matched me up with better people during my placement matches they would have gotten the **** right. For **** sake.

/vent. yeah all of this is irrational and stupid and blah blah blah, but I'm mad and just needed to vent. Expect more to come another day.

I'm losing to Silver players when apparently I'm a gold player (moved up from Silver). I know how horrible losing to stupid **** is.

Stupid noob question but since there's no beginner's questions thread and I'm too lazy to make one...

If I start playing online now, do I always have to use the same profile and/or does the rankings/stats reset at some point? I don't have any SC experience so I probably get crushed in first 30 games, but I'm really not interested in practicing singleplayer or vs AI. It's gonna be discouraging if I start with something like 20 losses and 3 wins

What do you think about making a thread for beginner questions? With SC2 retail there's gonna be lots of noobs like me asking stupid questions, right?

This is seriously me through both phases of the beta. I was stuck in silver/gold, but I felt like I was 10 times better than everyone I played. In the score screen, I always had them out ecoed, felt like I had better micro, etc., but I would seriously lose every mid-game or late-game. I never seemed to have good enough units to win, no matter what they built. After retail, I went 2-3 in placement matches and put back into silver, extremely frustrating. I started winning, I started beating the turtlers and cheesers more often, and I started realizing my mistakes. After about 30-40 games, I've moved up to platinum, and it's been way less frustrating.

The biggest thing I think I've changed is to always avoid meeting someone's army head on, especially if you feel you are the better player. It's kind of the same logic as getting a fish all in with marginal +EV instead of finding spots to take advantage of them. It really makes sense once you start bouncing around the map and watching the other player squirm to keep up with you attacking on all fronts. Snipe a couple harvesters here and there, catch a few newly created troops in the open, take out a massive unit out of position, etc. It all adds up.

As zerg, I've started using a lot more mutas, doom drops, burrowed roaches/infestors, ling run-bys, nydus worms (very underused), etc., and it's been a huge change in my game. As protoss, I would say blink stalkers, phoenix, collossi, warp prism (very underused), a few key proxy-pylons, etc. And as terran, medivacs (thorship!), hellion run-bys, banshees, etc. (terran is the least mobile, i think)

CLIFF NOTES: Frustrated through beta in silver/gold. Kept losing big battles to seemingly worse players. Changed mid-game playstyle to highly mobile, constantly harrass weaker player and now in plat.

You'll have a lot more than 20 losses.

You only get one name so yes, you'd always have to use that one, but apparently there are seasons and at some point the stats will be reset.

I'm not really sure how it works though.

I have a lot of experience in competitive multiplayer games (FPS and turn-based strategy, since late 90s), hope that helps at least a bit.

I did some research and there seems to be a lot of tutorials for the early game, but I feel kinda lost wtf I should do later on the game and also I have absolutely no idea what anything means (eg. don't know how to really use any scouted info to my advantage, as I don't know what certain buildings etc mean villain is up to)... Is there any tutorials or guides to countering villain's actions?

Or is it just like poker, I should just assume that people at micros (in this case lower ladders) don't even themself know what they are doing? :P

After retail launch I think Bronze turned into the league of people who don't have a lot of experience with the game.

Honestly your record doesn't really matter because the bonus pool is really where you make your rank. If you have a deep bonus pool you'll reach the top 10% of your division very quickly with only a few wins.

Most people from Gold down don't have stellar records. Most are barely above .500, but they are at the top of the division because of the bonus pool.

Most of the information you are going to gather is going to come in game. It's like playing MW2 on new maps. You can sit there all day and research the weapons, but until you actually use them and get a feel for them, looking at them all day doesn't do you any good.

RTS requires you to think on the fly. It's a lot of repetition. Expect to lose. I feel I'm better than I'm doing, but it's frustrating and so far I'm 5-9 in my division in Gold. I hope I get bumped down. Just try to not take it as seriously as I do because I go on monkey tilt and ended up getting pissed off, like you could see up above a few posts.

I played a lot of custom games against the AI to learn the hotkeys and other movements to make me more efficient. That's how you practice really, unless you play against other people in custom games.

53 minute match against somebody who basically wouldn't attack, fml.

Yeah, playing against AI is a good start for beginners. You can familiarize yourself with hotkeys and maps and units. Once you're past that stage, though, computers don't really have the intricate timing or strategies that are common in multiplayer. The best way to learn that is just to play yourself and watch replays (TL, day9, etc).

Was 6-2 platinum when I decided to go for the league achievements...

5-0 and into random 4v4 plat.

Picked up a bunch of achievements but my fav was probably Carnage Hall ( 4 CC/hatch/nex in 1 game ) That I rolled over with ~140 banelings :d

I just finished my placement matches. In order:

G1: I send my drones, que up a drone, send ovie to nearest main. Wish opponent GL. Opponent leaves.

G2: This guy makes it past GL, opens up with a forge. I scout for proxy cannons, nothing. I figure he's FE'ing. Nope. Builds ~20 cannons in his main. I build nothing but queens and drones, triple expo and tech straight to brood lords. When I arrive he has a force of ~30 zealots.

G3: I'm surprised when I send my ovie to the closest LT main that the first building I see is a barracks being built in the back of his base. I decide to baneling bust since his front wall won't be too strong. Turns out he never built one. Poor scvs...

G4: Similar to game 2, my opponent opens forge, turtles, I double expo and build ~300 lings. They along with another ~150 or so reinforcing lings manage to take out his base under constant cannon/void ray fire. He managed to produce 3 VRs.

G5: ZvZ. My opponent attempts the oh-so-pro double hatch before pool. One in base, one at his nat. My initial 4 lings off a 14 pool cause him to gg.

After all those quality wins I'm placed into plat.

I haven't played a zerg player for at least two days. I keep losing the PvP mirror and it's frustrating as ****.

Should've been put straight into diamond after those matches.

Hit me up if you wanna play a zerg. Or a terran for that matter, I'm attempting to become more well rounded. It's a long process it seems <.<

And yeah Stunna, I think bnet's ranking system is bugged. After beating those pros I should be put into rank 1 diamond ainec.
