It would be one thing if they were already decent/OK at detecting and punishing stuff like smurfing. But, they've proven time and again that they either suck at it or legitimately don't care.

As a solid gold who flirts with platinum, it's really frustrating to match up against yet another tryhard streamer who's clearly smurfing just to record some "sick plays."

Also, the whole "grind from bronze to champ but I will limit myself to the skill level of what I'm playing" is complete and total bullshit. Any time you get some pace on these guys, they're instantly expert flying and re-flipping all over again-- can't help themselves.

Yeah the smurfing is total trash. Nothing ruins my mood faster than getting flip reset on at d3

I hit c3 also in standard (and maintained my doubles c3 by not playing doubles for a month) but I'm noticed I'm clearly slower than many here. Not sure how I can practice that outside matches.

While I also hate a lot of the changes I don't agree with this. The core gameplay is the same and that's what's keeping me hooked up. Doing something like this a bit overly dramatic.

Everything's been fine for me except for the initial switch over date to Epic and a small inability to connect to friend list etc.

Not trying for any drama - I just can't stand Sweeney, his childish tantrums and moronic behaviour and statements. I feel dirty just thinking about linking my steam account to epic.

took me 2100 hours, 5,5 years, crazy how much work is there between ranks. I'm sure my last achievement in this game (for real now) would be hitting rewards now, which is possible with a bit of luck. Probably games are not that much different compared to c3, especially with people being super uneven. A lot of teams are some high gcs or even ssl carries with some c1+ mates.

I’ve played maybe less than 50 games of 2’s since I started playing in what, 2017 or something? I was sick yesterday and had nothing to do so I fired up some 2’s. It placed me at plat 3 div 4, and over the course of 8 hours I was somehow able to hit c1 div2 before I got too tired and stopped.

I’m way better at solo queue 2’s than solo queuing 3’s, which surprised me. I always thought diamond rank in 2’s would be absolutely intolerable with shitty/toxic teammates. Dont get me wrong, they were bad, but it’s far easier to carry a 2’s game than a 3’s, which is pretty much impossible honestly.

It also seems to fit my style much better, I like to steal possession and make fast aggressive strikes at net and wait for/punish mistakes very hard. Much more difficult to do in 3’s. I’m also fairly good at dribbling and ball control and you have way more time to do stuff like that in 2’s.

I suspect I will get hard stuck in c1 or c2 unless I find a good partner. My mechanics are DEFINITELY starting to become a factor - I can’t aerial dribble well and my off the wall clears are inconsistent at best. My defensive rotation needs a lot of work as well.

Unfortunately I just cant stand practicing, it’s the same issue I have in golf with putting :/ I really want to hit GC though. I think I have it in me.

Long ass time since you posted this but the smurfing in my opinion is a side effect of one of the worst ranking systems I’ve ever seen in a game. It’s completely nonsensical how much time/wins it takes to advance. I won at least at an 80% rate yesterday and it took me 8 hrs to climb through diamond still, no doubt causing an absolute miserable experience for the low diamond players that were getting absolutely pillaged by me. I’m not smurfing either, the game placed me here for some reason, despite being champ multiple times on this same account and having like a global 60% winrate.

If anyone from epic/psyonix can explain to me how it’s somehow possible to win 55% and not climb, i’d love to hear it, because that’s always been my experience with this ladder. 1 single loss seems to offset 3 wins.

on the same note, I dont think ppl in plat or diamond or whatever that can do aerial flicks and flip resets are necessarily smurfing. I've seen a lot of those types of players at those ranks, and nearly UNIVERSALLY they are terrible at basic game mechanics, especially positioning. It's not so much that they think they're the **** and are being a ball hog, it's like, they are very obviously completely out of position most of the time even when theyre trying to attack.

I think this is a result of the RL culture over the past several years which is dominated by highlight reels of insane shots and plays, which tbh are really fun and a part of what makes this game so cool, but I think many players literally ONLY practice these very niche mechanics that only matter at absurdly high ranks, and ignore everything else entirely.

I don't know how to do any of that and I'm still trying to hit my gc rewards for the first time, got 8/10 wins

I notice you also have a "low" goal/shot ratio like me, why do you think that is?

for me it's a few things, missing shots I shouldn't miss sometimes, but most of it is I try to always be attacking the net to force mistakes so I end up in games where I have like 12 shots but maybe 2-3 goals.

I have a habit of applying constant pressure so I do some shots that are hard to clear properly to put them out of position

Yea I feel, I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve with that. when I have time to set it up, one of my favorite plays is to kick a rolling ball high into the air very softly towards the net and do one of several things:

fake an aerial and let the ball fall hilariously slowly towards the net, which causes panic or awkward reactions sometimes

hit it very softly with my tires at a hard to defend location (like the opposite corner of the net where the defender is)

slam it down into the ground to cause it to bounce above their heads, which works a hilarious amount of the time

if they dont try to meet it in the air let it come to the ground and do something else

boom it into the backboard if i have a competent teammate that can accept a pass


stuff like that but i always try to keep defenders guessing and it results in tons of shots from me and my ratio is garbage. I've been finding that stuff like this works a lot better than banger shots that are easily predictable and expected. I'm always amazed at the split second saves people can somehow make even when I launch a 70 mph missile to the perfect part of the net

When a team’s being very aggressive and outputting a lot of pressure near the net, I like to take hail mary full court shots at their net to freak them out and force them to sit back a little. They hardly ever go in but it just takes one close call to freak people out

Lol, thanks for digging up my bitching. I do think the smurfing issue was most heavily concentrated in that 2020 summer, League streaming possibly at its peak. But then again, I haven't played in gold for a long time.

As of now, I'm solid plat 3 despite still being held back by my brother. But that's okay, because he's finally getting bored of League (and I've been over it for ages). I'm sure we'll be back someday, but I haven't felt the urge in awhile now. We've been having fun with mario kart and mario golf.

plat to diamond was rough, plat 3 -> diamond might be the most toxic rank in the game

surprisingly, even though I've done the bronze -> champ climb a few times now, gold gives me the most amount of trouble. Those low ranks can be really challenging if you're decent because you have to play in a way that is inherently bad. I can't even just rip the ball and score on a whim like I can in plat/diamond sometimes, because my ****ing teammates will ruin any shot I attempt to take.

My first 4 games yesterday had 4 leavers after 1 goal scored. I wasn't playing well but jfc. Im back at Diamond 3 and got tilted so I stopped playing. I really hate the rank system - multiple times my RL tracker score was where it always is when I am champ rank but I did not hit champ.
